The Sooners had an offensive genius in Riley. Now they have a defensive genius in Venables as HC. Will the results be the same or not and why?

People are gonna be surprised.
And Riley isn't an "offensive genius". He's just a play designer.

Venables compiled a good staff... and has the fortunate ability to play in the big 12 another couple seasons. They should be 10-2 or 11-1 with the talent on campus in that league.
Over the next few years I see the defense getting better while the offense slows down a bit just based on venables being the head guy

But the guy who was fired as the OU defensive coordinator by Bob Stoops is totally a defensive genius.

Are you seriously questioning Venables?
You're a shite talking moron aggot. Of course you are.

That doesn't make him an offensive genius. Bob had two Heisman winners as well and he doesn't know shite about offense.

It’s going to take Venables to stock pile defenses talent/depth.
With the O taking a step back this year and a D that will be a bit better, I see them at 9-3.

He already has lots of talent to play with on campus right now. I don't know where this group-think came from that we're talent deficient on defense, but we're not. We were talent deficient on the sidelines and in the booth.

This isn't happening either....

When he was OU's coach you thought,

Riley was the "offensive mind" that 24 NFL teams reached out to during the off-season for consultation. Nobody else. I'll take the NFL's word over some skank-arse shite talking SEC fan's opinion.

Riley had those guys like one after another and one or two transfers and he coached them up. Stoops had a long tenure and was fortunate to have his guys. Stoops was solid to his credit.

Correct. We all thought that. Until teams in the BIG 12 all decided to play deep zone and kill his entire offensive sytem. It was that easy.

Having a head coach with strong defensive credentials has worked out pretty well for Bama and UGA.

That still doesn't make him an "offensive genius". A QB developer at best.
Have you seen an "offensive genius" at work at any time during his playoff appearances against a defense with a pulse? No. No you have not.

You lost your starting QB and back up.
And a starting WR to USC if I am not mistaken.
Your coach is a D specialst and not an O. First year head coaches struggle with in game scenarios. Kirby did too and still does at times. Venables is no exception.
The O takes a step back guaranteed.

Looks like your skirt just blew up in the win young lady.

So? We had experience transfer in through the portal. You've heard of the portal right?
a "starting WR" with career stats of 35 receptions for 380 yards. Real big loss there.....

Where is this documented as fact?

The 2017-2019 offenses were all-time good with Baker / Kyler / Jalen. They all averaged over 8 yards per play. Those numbers dropped significantly in 2020-2021.
2022’s offense will not come close to those 2017-2019 teams, and will likely by less potent than the 2020-21 teams as well. Losing 5-star QBs and WRs will do that. That being said, our offense should still be in the top 20, even with our losses there was a lot of offensive talent remaining.
Where we expect to be significantly better is on defense. OU’s defense in 2017 ranked 101st in the country. Absolutely putrid. They weren’t much better in the surrounding years. Also, Riley largely ignored special teams and I expect Venables will pay more attention to them.
10-2 or 11-1 is reasonable in the weaker Big XII. Better would be great, and worse is acceptable as long as we see progress defensively.
2022 Oklahoma probably won’t be a playoff team, but I do expect them to finish the team in the top 10. Of this team finishes with a too 20 offense and a top 20 defense most Sooner fans will be happy, regardless of whatever the final record happens to be.

Oklahoma is about an Ole Miss/Arkansas tier team with regards to the SEC.
