LSU/A&M - Not a Rivalry
LSU has only played Florida 8 more times than they've played Texas A&M...
That's despite the fact that you've been in the SEC with them since inception (93 years).. A&M has only been in the league for 13 years.
That many OOC matchups between 2 schools happens rarely. It's a rivalry with very deep roots.
Maybe the younger folks like yourself don't see it that way though.

Florida vs LSU better not get axed! Try it and Aaron H will kill you!

No, our 3rd would be Arkansas and Arkansas would agree with that.
I can't speak for the other fanbases.

The SEC will schedule the permanent games based on what gives best ratings. Not what is a "true" rivalry. No way would SEC not have LSU v Bama every year unless one the teams starts to suck and go 8-4 or 7-5 on yearly basis.
I think LSU permanent opponents will be : Bama, Florida, Ole Miss.
Oklahoma could be substituted for Florida if SEC wants LSU to keep OU as last game of season which it currently has for last 2 years.

I was reading an article last night that said when the 3/6 model was first being discussed several years ago, the three annual games would be chosen based on 3 criteria.
1) Historic or long standing rivalries.
2) Distance between campuses. Sounds like they don't want teams or fans to have to make really long trips every two years.
3) Parity. The initial plan (not sure if this is still in play) was to create tiers based on win/loss records over the past 10 years and use that as a way of having somewhat equal matchups.

How can we lock this down?

Don't put it past the SEC and ESPN to make Texas Bamas third permanent. Money for that would be too much to pass up. Sips having Aggie, Sooners and Bama I guess, if that did happen.
True but we have a historical rivalry with Arkansas. I would be shocked if that wasn’t our 3rd after ou and a&m.
Would love an annual game vs Georgia or Bama but I just don’t see that happening.

BigBro, that Texas schedule ain't gonna happen. I don't care how the rest of the incestuous original SEC nits figure out their rivalries, but Texas has a long history with 3 distinct opponents. The three Texas rivalries will be
Oklahoma, 120 games played
Arkansas, 80 games played
Texas A&M, 119 games played
historical rivalry, intensity, and all within driving distance. The next closes game played with the SEC is Missouri with 24 total, and not much caring on either side.

Until LSU has played rice more than Auburn
LSU and Florida played annually since I-10 was drivable.

Texas is the easiest to project. The above is basically a guarantee. I feel next most confident with Georgia’s three (UF, AU, SC).

Alabama v LSU are usually top 5 tv games of the year. No way this one goes away. It’s all about tv revenue. They’ll look at that before historical rivalries.
You’re getting downvoted for this but you’re right. LSU / Ala prob remains just for the ratings alone.
LSU will get Alabama, Ole Miss and probably A&M. I personally would love to see Auburn return annually. That was always a favorite game of mine.

UGA and Kentucky and UGA and Vandy are more traditional conference rivals than UGA and USC so UGA and USC probably make the cut given the nature of CFB in the era....
I work with a bunch of UGA fans and while they don't consider us " true rivals" they'd absolutely consider SC a bigger rival than Vandy or Kentucky. SC and UGA will definitely be annuals.

I'm curious about the aTm/Arkansas matchups. I know they had that string of games in Dallas, but was it much of a rivalry back in the SWC days? Could two of Arky's three annual games be against the Texas teams?

If it were my call I'd swap out any other SEC school if Oklahoma did not have to play Missouri every year.
I really wish OU would get Arkansas because it is the only easily drivable road game for OU fans in the conference. It would be a big rivalry in no time flat because of proximity. It would be good for the fans.
But Arkansas has four or five teams who seem to be candidates for their three spots.
For me I'd like to see OU get TX obviously. For the fans sake... Arkansas... but for recruiting I'd rather have A&M (for exposure in Texas)... Mizzou (StL and KCMO) or LSU (Louisiana).
No other SEC teams make any sense to me for OU.

quote:For years, we heard endless laments from Auburn fans about how the divisional split robbed them of their historic rivalries in the East. Now, when given a chance to resume one of those rivalries (probably Florida), the Auburn AD says, "Thanks, but no thanks. We'd prefer Vandy instead."
The rumor out of the athletic department was that Vandy would fill out our three… apparently Auburn has said if we are going to be the only team who has to play both Alabama and Georgia annually, they were pushing for a weaker third opponent. That was the case a year or so ago at least.
What's really dumb about this is that you are going to be playing Florida every other year anyway. How much difference would it make to play them every year? Since Vandy won't be one of Auburn's rotating opponents, they will see more Texas, LSU, etc., in their rotating opponents.
For my money, it just doesn't make sense to focus on the strength of your permanent opponents if you play everyone two year out of four.

Yes, it's very possible. Aggy and Arkansas have played 81 times. Arkansas hates everything Texas, even aggy.
Imo, aggy should play Texas, LSU, and Arkansas.
Aggy would shite a fence post if Oklahoma was one of their rivals. 77-0.....BWAHAHAHA.
