Why should a 16 team conference with multiple power houses turn itself into a pretzel over 2 football games?
The SEC is stupid and greedy for letting in UT and OU. If they wanted to preserve traditional rivalries then they shouldn’t have done this. Just by doing this all “tradition” is thrown out the window so it’s not fair that everyone’s schedule still has to get screwed up because 4 schools insist on playing each other every year. You can’t have it both ways.

Agreed.

They can and they will.

No one can trash talk like MCAS.

If ESPN is the driving force then the LSU Bama game is a given.

You got it right.
Edit: Actually, I'd take A&M, Arkansas and Ole Miss too.

We know for sure it'll be one of two models. Either 8 SEC games with 1 permanent or 9 SEC games with 3 permanent. Just don't know which it'll be yet.
If this is the case, I'd say there's a 99% chance it will be 3 permanents.

Sam grew up in a family of OU fans and was the only one who wasn't. So he wants to play Oklahoma each year, Texas no need to explain that and the Missouri game probably won't be changed.
The only thing that Sam missed out was Ole Miss. However the three teams that are mentioned are geographically close and so all these fans can have easy travels to these games.

So, are you ending The Iron Bowl or Third Sat. In. October?
How about DSOR or WLOCP?

In fairness, an even # of conf. games for all is a balanced format.

Exactly. And with three permanent rivals plus six rotating games, you can both preserve critical rivalries, and play every other school in the conference within two years.
HOW are you going that? You're either going to have to repeat a 4H/5A & 5H/4A to change opponents every year..
OR repeat opponents & rotate the 4H/5A & 5H/4A format.

Auburn’s three biggest traditional rivals are Bama, Georgia and Florida. Pretty sure most Auburn fans would prefer them for our three permanent opponents regardless of difficulty or parity in scheduling.

Removing Miss State from Auburn. It should be Florida or even Tennessee over Miss St.
Yeah, that was a low blow.

How about the needed tie-breakers to sort same-record teams?

You can swap SC for Miss. as 3rd perm. for Georgia.

The Big Ten, Big 12, and PAC-12 all play a nine-game conference schedule. I'm sure the SEC will figure it out.
Also, it doesn't seem that difficult. The permanent rivalry games will rotate between 2H/1A and 1H/2A. The six rotating games will simply be 3H/3A and rotate through so that you play everyone home and away once every four seasons.

Good with me. I don't want to lose the Florida game. Would prefer Bama over the Farmers, but that isn't happening.

You could keep all rivalries & have a full H/A with a 6 year rotation.
Posted on 2/10/23 at 1:40 pm to BreakawayZou83
A - they don't have as many annual rivalries as the SEC
B - per your post, you stated "play EVERYBODY in 2 years"

quote:I bet if you ran the numbers, you'd find that having 3 tough permanent opponents doesn't yield a much tougher schedule than only having two tough ones and a cupcake. If you've got 3 tough permanent opponents, those teams never appear on your rotating schedule, so the rotating teams will be easier, whereas, leave off Florida from your permanent, and you still see them every other year, along with the other tough teams.
