Alabama-FSU 2017 Opener

Alabama tried to get Miami to play but Miami decided to open 2018 against LSU at Jerryworld instead and didn't want back to back openers with LSU and Alabama.

This would either open or be the 2nd game in the New Falcons Stadium (Tennessee and Georgia Tech are also supposedly going to play that opening weekend, probably on Thursday ala Ole Miss-Boise State this year)

Alabama's future OOC slate is
2015 - Wisconsin (Dallas)
2016 - USC (Dallas)
2017 - no big game currently scheduled

IMO, this is better than home-and-home series. Big venues, prime tv exposure, great for recruiting, more big-name teams to play, etc.

Blake Barnett would love to smash some Forced Sex recruits into the dirt.

that is dumb

Big venues

Alabama and FSU both have a larger stadium that ATL

tv exposure

Bama-FSU would be a primetime matchup (esp 1st week of the season) regardless of where they played

more big-name teams to play,

could be done with a home and home

My guess is the Falcons will have technically played some preseason games there by that point and Tennessee/Georgia Tech will probably play Thursday.

But it will be the first weekend of games there, yes.

Normally I would agree regarding home and homes, but Alabama vs Florida State in the brand new Falcons Stadium to open the year would be the biggest season opening game in decades.

Nah. Visiting a college campus and tailgating there all day and taking in the atmosphere of an on campus stadium is far better than setting up in a parking lot and watching the game in a corporate venue.

Not always. A lot of bigger name schools are going the neutral site route to ensure they don't lose revenue every other year.

WeeWee, I'm starting to wonder about you. 1) My "Big venue" was in reference to the city in which it's played. 2) The excitement of 2 powerhouse teams meeting on tv in a metropolitan setting gives added drama to the entire thing. 3) Home-and-home means that you play the same team TWICE, whereas, you can play TWO different teams and have greater variety.
I've gotta say that you're not a very good endorsement for the future medical profession...are you in vet school?

It doesn't to me. I went to the LSU-Oregon game it was almost like a bowl game and not a regular season game. It was nice to have an air conditioned stadium when it was 107 outside (and still felt better than BR on a summer afternoon), but the enviroment of LSU-UW in BR or LSU-VT (from 2007) were better IMO. I prefer home and home.

Oh yeah Western Carolina and Sam Houston State (LSU played them) offer great variety.

I would prefer better home and homes. This neutral site shite is one of the main reasons why attendance is down at football games. LSU-Wisconsin would be massive sellouts in both BR and Madison and so would Bama-FSU.

I guess it depends on how you like to take in out of town games. I'd have to guess that most folks don't have campers or vehicles that allow them to take off for a number of days, live out of their vehicle.

No way dude. Tailgating on the quad (insert your schools equivalent) vs tailgating in the parking lot of a stadium on an interstate exit? Come on. These neutral site games blow

It would be nice to see Jimbo get rocked by Saban on national television though. The dude deserves it.

Why because I don't think neutral site games are good for CFB?

Again, IF you're tailgating...notice the huge number of folks who don't tailgate.
