5.9% of all players hit portal. It seems much higher based on all the talk. And 10.8% of QBs

And offensive players seem leave more than defense but without actual numbers of each its hard to know by how much.

Juniors are biggest class of movers.

I wonder why the Pac-12 has so few players portaling out.

10 players per team vs 13.5 in the SEC. Not a huge difference.

Sad part is that according to stats from past years a large amount of these kids won't even end up on another team. They will wait for a call that won't ever come.

that is bad...what happens to those that never get a call....do they get to keep attending classes and move toward a degree or do they pack them up and move them out.

The SEC recruits the best talent and stacks rosters with these kids. 90% were recruited by other big time schools and were told how great they were and how needed they were by everyone in the recruiting process. When they don't meet those unrealistic expectations, they still have those contacts/people in their ear and they bolt.

Players still transferred a lot before the portal, there was just a few rules around it. I'm curious to see a comparison, how many transfers now vs transfers before the portal. I'm sure it's higher now, but I'd like to see by how much, if anyone has this sort of info.

Because there are only 2 teams in it.

Yes, it happens every year. They buy hype and get caught up in the gamble. And many lose. Quite a few from big name schools end up at smaller schools to get playing time. But then its harder to get seen.

I'll get really upset about the kids transferring when there are some sorts of similar limits put on the adults in the transaction that are making promises.

Many of them did not land on new teams in the past. It's not a guarantee someone will take them.

I would assume that if their old coach doesn't take them back, then they can stay at the school, but have to start paying their own tuition. I can't imagine a university letting a kid attend for free that tried to ditch their program and is providing no value to the university as an athlete.

IIRC, around 30% last year ended up without a team.

They aren't all "buying hype". Many are told to look other places by coaches and basically told they will never see the field at their current school.

That's exactly what Ryland Goede (TE, Georgia Tech) said on one of his last podcasts as a UGA player. He said Monken told him straight up to transfer, and would never see the field at UGA. Exact words.

That would make sense. If a player clearly isn't panning out, might as well see if you can move him along to free up a scholarship.

Some who don’t get a call from FBS can get a call from FCS schools
