While true, James Franklin somehow managed to win 9 games at Vandy. He's also in the same division with Ohio State now. Alabama has certainly had more success than Ohio State, but in terms of dominating their divisions the two programs are very similar. Ohio State has won at least of tie of that division every year starting in 2012.
James Franklin actually makes a lot of sense as a likely target given who LSU just appointed as their president. Not saying he'd be interested, as I have no idea if he would, but it would shock me none to see him as a primary target. Personally, I wouldn't be a fan. One thing to consider is given LSU's Title IX issues right now, Franklin certainly has some skeletons in that regard with three of his Vandy players being convicted of gang rape while he was there. This little blurb was included in case filings by defense attorneys

First...as you mentioned, competition is going to be less than SECW
Second...PA is home for him. He was born, grew up and went to college there. That's where he started his coaching career.
Vandy was his only coaching job in the South. He is connected in PA, and is building something good there. No way he leaves it.

So many names were thrown around during the search for the baseball coach, and nobody had a clue it would be Jay Johnson, and by all accounts, it has been a hire that most are excited about.
I think the football coaching search will go similarly.
