I understand tv homeownership but OK and OK ST add quality academic and athletic prowess to the conference. They are good in multiple sports rather than just football an They aren't just basketball schools like Duke and North Carolina(well obviously baseball with NC).

If you can color between the lines, then you can get admitted into these schools.

Yes, it's coming. Going to fourteen made no sense unless there was plan for more.

That said...

"I'm all for subtracting two."

This would make a good thread, if we downsized - who should go?

I want to go back to 10 teams, play everyone, and have a real conference champion.

Yes, add Virgina, V Tech, Clemson, Florida state, North Carolina, and Ok st. frick OK! I really think a Virgina team would be a great addition. The TV market up there is huge.

It's inevitable,

quote:

If we go to 16, we HAVE to adopt the 4 team pods and 3-2-2-2 scheduling rotation

this

I want UNC and Va Tech... That would add a lot of television sets... Have to do the pods cause you cant have UK, Florida and UNC in the same basketball divison.

10 would be nice. Everyone plays each other.

I like that, but it ain't happening. If it did, you drop the 4 last members added--Arkansas, South Carolina, A&M, and Missouri--and stay with those that have been founding members since the SEC was created.

No.

1. The conference is already too large and we don't play everyone often enough. The conference is going to lose its cohesion.

2. Further expansion would put AU-UGA and Bama-Tenn in jeopardy.

3. There are not any likely candidates that add markets, have good athletics, good academics, and fit in culturally. It is going to be tough to get ACC teams b/c of the media rights deal.

I really think we had things just about perfect at 12 and a conference championship game. I think we will look back and see what a good thing we had going for those 20 years from 1992 to 2012 and wonder what the hell leadership was thinking when it started messing with the conference.

Basketball doesn't have the divisions.

Add in a 9-game round robin and I'm all for it

You're correct ... but it is only inevitable if they can get the right two teams that fit the conference's geographical need to expand into North Carolina and Virginia.
