Mississippi has more of the T-shirt fanbase in-state due to the average Mississippi peckerwood's affinity for confederate image

I disagree with this. Most of the t-shirt fans I know are State fans. I think it’s more than likely because state has been more successful than Ole Miss in the major sports (and women’s basketball), especially lately. I saw a lot of t-shirt LSU fans in 2004 and see a lot of t-shirt Bama fans now for the same reason. Everyone loves a winner.

I will definietely agree both in-state schools are third and fourth to LSU and Bama for sidewalkers in Mississippi.

So, you’re asking folks to walk through the grove, obverse a bunch of people then don’t know, and then make judgments and determinations based on those observations, and, if those judgments and determinations don’t match up with yours, the person is biased?

Isn’t that stereotyping?

No, it's called observing behavior.

Instead of letting this trigger you, maybe you can choose to learn from it. That's how meaningful change is brought about.

There is a notable portion of the Ole Miss student body who meet this description. At least when I was there

it's not necessarily a bad thing. Brings a lot of money in.

The skinny: They are both from the state of Mississippi, which historically is last in everything good, and first in everything bad. Of the 3 states that make up the armpit, Miss/Bama/Louisiana, Miss comes in yep, you guessed it, last.

Why am I rustled? I thank God for Ole Miss every day. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

This is two threads I’ve seen you in discussing the supposed “superiority” complex rampant among the Ole Miss fanbase. It’s okay to be upset, but why don’t you try and get to know us before painting with such a broad brush?

Here’s factual takes.
- Ole Miss’s AD consistently makes poor decisions. It shows on the field.
- Ole Miss’s football team has an incredible knack for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the most unbelievable manners.
- State fans have a chip on their shoulder about anything Ole Miss. It’s common with other similarly situated schools (such as Auburn and Oklahoma State). I’ll give credit where it’s due: they’re the better run AD.
- The Grove is a blast, especially if you like cold Wal-Marks chicken tendies.
- There are a lot of stereotypes about Ole Miss folks and a faux superiority complex. There are some rich people at Ole Miss, just like any other school, but I really don’t know where this stereotype comes from. Most of my friends came from middle and upper middle class backgrounds, which is exceedingly common for college students in the South.
- There are more State fans than Rebs in Mississippi. This is probably due to the fact State has been more successful than Ole Miss in major sports the past three decades and enrolls and graduates more Mississippians. This is also why there is more hatred directed from Starkville to Oxford than the other way. Many, if not the majority of Ole Miss grads leave Mississippi.

Ole Miss - doctors, lawyers, liberal-arts useless social society wine glass single malt ascot spats mommy daddy from New Orleans lah-Dee-dah old time campus frat led student body, college is for social experience, well dressed and wanton coed “why Ashley-no .. oh ok, just this once,” Faulkner college town throw/back world. Football team rented cutesy gimmicky more into flashy appearance….like student body.

Miss State - engineers, farmers, back country fight you “hey-now,” inferiority complex, boots wearing, hard working, crude, red neck, beat-your-azz,self confident girls ask you out, dive bars and Pabst blue ribbon, used cars, practical makes it work oil field … football team will physically beat you up even if you win.

Does that help?

Went to the grove for a top 10 matchup with us.

Thought it was overrated but I didn’t get the sense that they were pretentious

The thing about this ridiculous take is that anyone in the nation is free to travel to Oxford and take a stroll through the grove on game day. Those who do this and are unbiased going into it will readily see that it's no lazy stereotype. The pretention hangs in the air like the smell of bourbon and chicken tenders. It's probably the first thing they'll notice....right ahead of the startling lack of diversity.

Says the Mississippi State guy. Priceless.
