Well I went to Ancestry.com and it has German and Dutch origins as it is spelled now (Meyer) which just meant Overseer or tenant farmer. So in that context, Meyer as spelled now has a root word in German, Dutch, Irish from Gaelic O' Meidhir and also a Danish variant, along with Ashkenazi-Jewish variant. Many European family names regardless of Ethnicity, unless from Royalty, usually were associated with the Trade of the Father, etc.

Yes, I went to Ancestry and it indeed is from German Meier which does mean steward, balliff but eventually tenant farmer. The German word came from the Latin Maior (superior) and from there it found its way into several other languages, including Irish from the Gailic Meidhir. So the name Meyer does have an interesting history.

I hope they hire him. Again, I would rather see him at Notre Dame than USC.

Really, do you know the history of the School? It was founded in the 1840's by a Catholic priest during the Know Nothing period of US history. With the resurgent KKK in the 1920's, there were violent Clashes where KKK, White Supremacist (Your WASP Norther European types) and anti-Catholic movements tried to burn the school down and attack the students there, all of them sons or grandchildren of Traditional Catholic Ethnic Groups, Irish, Polish (my wife's ancestry), Italians (like myself). Your comment shows ignorance and a total lack of understanding of US History (some of the dark sides of it) and how Notre Dame helped provide educational opportunities to said Catholic Ethnic Groups which were denied by the WASP power structure.

This is a sports board, not an American history board.

I am a Weirdo, No that is not it you need to write clearer.

You stated you wished Notre Dame did not exist. That is what you said. Had you said that, I would not have written anything back to you. You should have said you do not like Notre Dame football. Fine. No problem. But again, that is not what you said. You said you wish Notre Dame did not exist. Those are two totally different statements that any reasonable person with some understanding of history and critical thinking skills would interpret differently.

My suggestion, don't write cryptic or ambiguous statements.

How is it a trigger. No he should write clearer. It is all age of a person reading it and context. If you don't think there is a hint of anti Notre Dame rhetoric do to religion, you are dreaming.

There are lots of people in Louisiana that "don't hate Notre Dame" in any context, Football included. I understand your from Alabama and Catholic is something foreign to you.

You're putting way too much time into this. I have no intentions of arguing with you about my original statement on the thread in a sports forum.

Have a wonderful life jerking off to Notre Dame.

Notre Dame better get used to paying a shitload more money than they're used to spending to coach there if they want him. They've always had that "it's a privilegeto coach at Notre Dame in the first place." Thing going on. I doubt this will ever happen.

Fair enough. I don't want to argue about it either. And for the record I am not arguing, I was only making a point, think of it more of a debate.

Now, the problem is with these "sports forums" it never always is just about sports. Look at some the threads last night between some Bama and Some LSU fans where it went into my state is this my state is that, your state is this vs my state is that. Read some threads where Some of these other posters from certain schools start calling everyone in LA stupid cajun swamp trash, etc, etc. So in reality, while yes this is a sports board, it does often goes beyond sports.

If you hate Notre Dame football, fair enough. Just say that. No need to end your post with the ...off to Notre Dame. Your first sentence was effective in communicating your thoughts.

well, not sure what you are getting at. I don't think anyone here is a weirdo. Some are trolls, some are ignorant, some like me are hot headed Louisiana guys who blow up sometimes. If I misread your post, which ex post, I now realize I did, I apologize. I saw some Bama poster the other night throw David Duke into a post. My God, My grandparents and great grandparents were all Italian immigrants to New Orleans. Of course, ole Dukie is actually from Oklahoma, sorry for the history lesson again.

In hindsight, I perhaps should have just asked what was the context of your original statement regarding Notre Dame. So that was my bad.

So Truce and again I apologize for jumping to incorrect conclusions.

Well, that suggest that my post at least with respect to "some people" is accurate. It is not always just about football for "some people", which was the point I was making.

Cheers. I have an inherent distrust of Catholic institutions, which in my opinion is warranted. Nothing against Catholics themselves.

Fair enough. I have no problem with the way you worded this post. Cheers to you and I wish Auburn University and all its academic and sports programs good luck in all future endeavors.
