Completely uncalled for. This is a great question.

It was one of his dream schools...the other one was OSU where he grew up idolizing Woody Hayes and especially Earle Bruce, who he considers his mentor and 2nd father. That's what got him into that jam last year when he kept Earle's grandson Zach Smith on staff. It was strictly out of loyalty.

You nailed it, he is not only Catholic, he is Irish Catholic. His Parents naming him Urban, The first Bishop of Rome (i..e Pope) named Urban goes back to 222-230 AD, Saint Pope Urban 1. Based on my memory from my Dominican led Catholic Education, there were 7 other Popes Named Urban. USC's President doesn't want him, Notre Dame almost hired him back in 2005 but he went to Florida, kids wanted to go near Disney land, etc.

I hope he goes there rather than USC. Of course, I don't have a hatred towards Notre Dame like most Southerners outside of Louisiana. When I was young, other than LSU, I use to pull for Notre Dame. Of course, I am 2nd/3rd generation grandson of Italian immigrants and despite thinking the current Pope is an idiot, Catholic born, Catholic bred and will be Catholic dead, My God have Mercy on my Soul!!!

Really, do you know the history of the School? It was founded in the 1840's by a Catholic priest during the Know Nothing period of US history. With the resurgent KKK in the 1920's, there were violent Clashes where KKK, White Supremacist (Your WASP Norther European types) and anti-Catholic movements tried to burn the school down and attack the students there, all of them sons or grandchildren of Traditional Catholic Ethnic Groups, Irish, Polish (my wife's ancestry), Italians (like myself).

Your comment shows ignorance and a total lack of understanding of US History (some of the dark sides of it) and how Notre Dame helped provide educational opportunities to said Catholic Ethnic Groups which were denied by the WASP power structure.

urban is no where close to goat. He has no ability to sustain a program. Saban has proven his ability to build and to sustain.

Don't mean to question you but it's interesting to me... tried to find out Meyer's ethnicity but no information is available. The name Meyer has English, Dutch, german, or jewish origins.

Meyer. Are you sure, I always thought Irish. Maybe German-Bavarian if it is indeed German. I doubt English.

The spelling of his name is german, specifically north german, as it is spelled maier in south germany, which means farmer.
