It really was a damn good play in both situations....not surprising that Saban and his staff were the first to use it honestly
Except that they weren't

Different formation, but same exact play. You are correct sir.
So technically, Alabama stole it from Gary Crowton.

When asked about the play Bilackeck (sp?) got the play from his friend Nick Saban.

High schools do it all the time. They'll overload one side and leave a guard and TE,lining up where the Tackle usually is, on one side. We have to always tell our corners if that tackle has a back number he is eligible so cover him. The only difference beween the Bama and NE play is that Bama actually put their Tackle out wide, whereas the Pats brought a lineman out and put a back,Vereen, out wide. I thought you had to have at least 5 linemen numbers on the field, in high school you do, but I guess in the pros you don't as long as you report.

LSU ran this play for a TD to Richard Dickson in the 2007-08 BCS NCG against Ohio State.
No, Alabama invented it.

Bama could probably beat the Ravens.
No. The Ravens have Mt. Cody, Upshaw and Moseley. It'd be Bama beating themselves again.

The thing that I am noticing is that absolutely zero of the people that claim that this play is old news and has been around and that they have seen it ran plenty of times have yet to produce a link to a highlight video of someone running it. Which is odd because I'm fairly sure a play like this being ran would DEFINITELY have a youtube video floating around.... unless of course its SO common that it doesnt need one and Mike and Mike apparently just dont know anyone with any decent background in football.

NCAA stole using long oblong balls from Alabama.

Well the actual reigning Super Bowl champions have been known to look elsewhere in the state of Alabama for a little offensive inspiration.

So what? We invented a play. Bear Bryant invented football.

Lol Bama didn't invent that play. Good try though

College is different though, they don't announce eligible players like they do in the NFL. College also runs a lot of pick plays that tend to confuse officials as well.

Mike & Mike said that after everyone they've talked to said they have seen this play ran only two times, by New England and by Alabama.
and I'm sure the 6 people they asked were all mainly NFL guys who still need to have it explained to them that Chip Kelly runs a fast offense.
I mean have you ever listened to NFL guys talk about what goes on in college? Most of them seem to have not watched a game since the early 90s and have no idea WTF is going on with offenses these days.
