My thoughts exactly

The week to week grind is what will be the hardest thing to adjust to. Take a week off and snooze through a game and you take a loss to an unranked team at home

Well, we fared pretty well against these top tier SEC teams since 2013.

2013: OU 45 Alabama 31
2016: OU 35 Auburn 19
2020: OU 55 Florida 20

Sure, we didn't do too well against the SEC champions the few times we played, but neither did the rest of the SEC.

OU plays in a JV conference. End of story

Go look at the draft picks on defense they faced in the last 5 years.

OU’s average recruiting ranking would probably fall right around Florida for 5th/6th in the SEC behind bama uga LSU and A&M. I’d imagine they get a bit of a bump from joining but they are not winning 11-12 games the first few years. Interestingly enough Texas recruits better on average than OU, guess some of their issues fall on development

It’s not the one game that’s the problem. It’s playing these teams six weeks in a row.

A team like State has no national appeal, but look at the current Bulldogs in the NFL. Some really good players and they were good in college. A&M brought a top four team into Starkville a couple years ago and was down 21-0 before they got off the bus.

The Big 12 doesn’t do that. When you go to Kansas, you know no matter how bad you play, you are going to win.

OU already out recruits A&M most years and LSU in average star rating, so how do you figure they would fall below them with a move to the SEC? Makes zero sense. The QB recruiting alone gives OU the advantage over everybody in the SEC but bama.

Good post- as with our move it will be the same for them.

You must have excellent line okay. And a lot of them. Follow that with LBs who can fill the gap while cover the wheel.

Your offenses must protect the defense with TOP.

Biggest difference is that there are simply no opportunities for mailing it in. You do that, you will get beat.

I personally think OU will step right in and be ok. They are in way better condition than Texas to do so. And if not, they will adapt a lot quicker. I think many are discounting OU in the thread.

Texas will have a lot of crosshairs on them coming into the conference. More so than OU.

Texas isn’t that good of a team so they’re just delusion if they have their eyes on the top tier right out of the gate. OU will be interesting. They’re a great football program but I think the depth of the SEC will be an adjustment. Week four against some also ran SEC team with NFL dudes on the defensive line will be a gut check. Still, they’ll get their share of dudes and be just fine I think.

I will wait to see if OUs defense last year was a true change for them or an aberration.

I’m not sure what is wrong with Texas but they have a lot of catching up to do. They should be better than they are.

Texas and Oklahoma need to start playing defense if they want to compete in the SEC!

I know this is a stand up for the SEC and bash OU and TU thread, but defense in the SEC ain’t what it used to be. I’m fairly certain OU will get their points in majority of games, won’t win em all. But I’ve no doubts they’ll continue to be high scoring in the SEC.

This. Look at this board week to week during football season. What is the biggest excuse when someone loses? Injuries. "If so and so hadn't been hurt, we'd have won that game." Everyone in the SEC has to have depth to compete, week in and week out.

I'm sorry but no it doesn't. It has comparable talent to about 6 other teams in this conference but it isn't "out talenting" anyone in the top half of the conference. I don't think that has sunk in yet for you.

Look at LSU....stacked with NFL prospects and coming off a national title. A slight dip in experience plus a new QB gave them a .500 record in this conference. No one is immune without total resiliency.

Adjusting to the bodies the sec has will present a learning curve, and definitely not allow OU to coast through games like they have gotten used to the last 10 years, but Oklahoma is always as big or bigger than most sec teams, hell most years the OU oline is bigger on average than NFL lines. OU already out talents everybody but Bama, and playing in the sec with Riley as coach basically elevates that talent level even more. Top 5/10 classes are the normal for OU and with the coaching talent and pick of the litter of top QBs and WRs every year I think we are all in for some awesome games at the top. Texas on the other hand has a LOT of culture and coaching to make up to compete at the top of the SEC.

You actually believe this dumb shite, huh?

Last 4 years recruiting rankings by 247 composite:

LSU: 5th, 4th, 3rd, 4th
Texas: 3rd, 8th, 15th, 10th
OU: 6th, 12th, 10th, 5th
A&M: 4th, 6th, 8th, 14th

The last year is currently in progress, by average star ranking LSU OU and A&M are all around 92 and Texas around 90 currently. On average ranking for the previous 3 years:

LSU- 4
A&M- 6
Texas- 8.7
OU- 9.3

The same average for bama is 1.3, georgia 2.3, Florida 10, auburn 12.3

Also, I said I expected them to get a small bump in recruiting from joining, but as it is now they would be around the 5th and 6th most talented teams in the conference, like I said.

Can’t disagree with the OP. For sure a step up in class, top to bottom.
