I've seen clips of Gale Sayers and he may have been better than any of them.

I'd go Barry Sanders. His game translates in any era and his stop, start and accelerate abilities can't be taught or mirrored.

Barry Sanders, all day every day, and twice on Sundays.

Sayers was a five-time All-Pro who averaged 5 yards per carry for his career and twice led the league in rushing, including after having torn the ACL and MCL in his right knee late in the previous season.
Known as the "Kansas Comet," Sayers was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977 despite playing just seven seasons, all with the Bears. At 34, he was the youngest player ever inducted.
As a returner, Sayers was also devastating, scoring six touchdowns and averaging more than 30 yards per kickoff return. At the time of his retirement he was the NFL's all-time leader in kickoff return yards.
"I never came up against a running back like him in my whole career," said Hall of Fame linebacker and former teammate Dick Butkus.

Barry sanders highlights are the best bar none. But those of us old enough to have watched him live also remember him getting subbed most of the time the Lions got inside the 5. Wouldn’t happen to anybody else on that list. I’m not old enough to have watched Jim Brown but of everyone else it’s Sweetness
