I did not realize just how many undefeated teams there were that aren’t recognized by the NCAA as national champions. We may be here all day.

If we are intent on claiming a title in the 40's then we should drop the ridiculous 1941 claim and claim this year instead. It would be far more defensible.

Other than the NCAA not officially recognizing them, once again you nailed it.

UGA last year.
Lost to Bama by 3 in the regular season but then won in the SECCG by 21.
Beat Ole Miss in the regular season by 8 but then lost in the playoff by 5.
Note, you said "defeated every opponent on their schedule" not won every game they played. UGA's only two losses came against teams they played twice that they also beat.

Penn State had several:
1968
1969
This blows my mind, two years in a row and couldn't get a natty.
USC was a giant killer.
The 1939 Tennessee Volunteers football team holds the distinction of being the last team in NCAA history to go undefeated, untied, and unscored upon during the regular season. Led by head coach Robert Neyland in his 13th year, the squad finished with a 10–0 regular season record, shutting out every opponent with a combined score of 212–0.
While the team entered the 1940 Rose Bowl as defending national champions, they were defeated by USC with a score of 0–14, ending their perfect season. This remains the only instance since 1920 where a college football team achieved an undefeated, untied, and unscored upon regular season without losing a bowl game, a feat later matched only by the 1932 Colgate Red Raiders and 1938 Duke Blue Devils in the regular season, though both also fell to USC in the Rose Bowl.

There was a weird period where Penn State got penalized because people thought "eastern football" was inferior.

They deserved it as payback for the first half of the 20th century when the north and east undervalued southern football.

I take OP to mean your teams record would be, ??-0-0 after ALL games have been played, ALL games.
No losses, NO ties, not just undefeated.
Then why did he include 2011 LSU? They were 13-1, not undefeated.
Yeah, the statement is "beat everyone on the schedule".
LSU was 1-1 vs Alabama, 1-0 vs everyone else.
2025 UGA is the same way. 1-1 vs Ole Miss and Alabama, 1-0 vs everyone else.
As mentioned, Fla State did the same back in the 90s. 1-1 vs Fla, 1-0 vs everyone else.
I would guess either Oklahoma or Nebraska has a year like this.
Looks like Ole Miss did this in 1959, losing to LSU in the regular season, then winning the rematch in the Sugar.

98 Tulane
But they don't claim BS titles like UCF and Auburn

Don't look at me, I didn't say anything about lsu.
You can take it up with someone else please.
I took OP to mean exactly what the thread title said...

NCAA Officially Recognized National Champions
The NCAA does not officially sponsor or sanction a national championship game for the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision), making FBS titles "mythical" or selector-based rather than NCAA-sanctioned.
While the NCAA documents various championship selectors—like the AP Poll, Coaches Poll, or CFP—in their records, they do not recognize one "official" NCAA winner

I am going with what is listed on the NCAA website over random people on the internet.
Believing anyone can award a national championship is how you end up with Auburn claiming 9 national championships.
