Looking at the LSU schedule, one could reasonably anticipate
the Tigers end up 8-4 or 7-5. The two East opponents won't be a cakewalk and on the road at Aubie, Aggy and Fayetteville will all be a test.

Outside of Saban, I believe that there isn't a college football coach currently unbiased fans would want more than Smart. Recruiting is the biggest factor in winning these days. He, and arguably Day, are the only two that consistently recruit at the same level as Saban.
