Edited for history professors who've informed us that every new decade actually starts with 1.

I mean, that's not news. We cover it 10 times a years here alone.

There is no year 0.

Nah. It started 1/1/2020.

Similarly the 21st Century started 1/1/2000.

OPs are apparently really proud of themselves for knowing when a decade technically begins. Still seems screwy however. So the first day of the 21st century was Jan. 1, 2000, but 2000 was still part of the last decade of the 1900s.

Cool I guess smh.

The 1900s (20th Century) ended at midnight on 12/31/1999 and began at midnight on 1/1/1900.

Nope.

You count 1-10, not 0-9.

But why wouldn't all 10 years that encompass one decade have the same third number – 2020, 2021, 2022, etc.? That's just bullshite, the United Nations or whoever should change that.

This is simply not true and easy to check.

Wrong. Time keeping starts at zero, a la a stopwatch. A count of 1 marks the completion of an initial time increment (1 second, 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 year, 1 decade, 1 century, 1 millennium, etc.) Therefore, 12:00 a.m. 1/1/2000 begins the 21st century.

Since apparently you are too lazy to just look it up and choose one of the 100 or so links that all say the same thing, here are three.

That proves nothing. It's semantics. Timespan measurement begins at zero, but the first year is referred to as year 1 not year 0. For example, year 1 of life begins at birth, not when your 1 year birthday arrives. Year 2 begins at one year of age.

Hmm, wonder what would happen if you included 2019.

Would any of the loss totals stay the same? Truly a mystery.

They need to change that shite. I will never say that 1930 was part of the roaring twenties, or 1980 was part of the 70's. Christ was born at zero not 1. They need to change it to coincide with the counting of one's age since it is based off someone's age. They change everything else, so this should be easy for the eggheads who do nothing but sit around all day debating stupid stuff like this.

Make it happen wonks. Earn your money for a change.

Apples and oranges.

Question, how many years make up a decade? A century? A millennium? Answer that question, then start when the Gregorian calendar started and you can tell people you figured it out all by yourself…..
