All trolling aside, here's how I would feel if I were an Ole Miss fan:

1. It was the right decision to name Pete the head coach (not interim) after Lane's departure, and Pete did a great job keeping the team from coming unglued.

2. While there were likely better candidates out there to lead Ole Miss in the future, there is reason to have hope that Pete can maintain success at Ole Miss. If I were an Ole Miss fan, I would feel better about Pete's chances of success now than I did 3 weeks ago.

This feels like a pretty rational take. it'll be interesting to see whoever how he leads a team from offseason forward. The structure for this team was already built...I doubt he made a ton of whole sale changes to how practices were ran and obsiouly the defensive and offense schemes were the same.

There is so much that goes into running a CFB program that doesn't have shite to do with X's and O's and he really didn't have to do that on this run. Will be interesting to see how a guy that has never so much as run a high school team does that

I'm surprised Judge wasn't the hire.

Golding seems like a slightly more polished version of Orgeron to me.

And aside from 2024, his defenses haven't even been that great at Ole Miss. FEI had them 30ish in 2023 and in the high 40's and low 50's this year.

This is the most ridiculous argument I see. No one had to keep a team playing in the CFP together. Everyone of those kids knew what was at stake and were prepared to bleed for it.

I can’t take anyone seriously that thinks they made a good or the right hire.

And yet LSU fans were assuring all on this board that Brian Kelly would lead LSU to the promised land. Should we take LSU fans seriously?

I do believe that Lane Kiffin will do well at LSU, but honestly it is a feeling. he has never even played for a conference championship, but he is, in your minds, a rock solid hire. Of course, so was Brain Kelly when he was hired. After all. He was ND's leading wins coach, and he was going to a school (LSU) with better support...and let's not forget if Ed Orgeron and Les Miles can win a title at LSU, then Kelly would be a cinch.

He reminds me of a younger, slimmer Sam Pittman.

Based upon what? Taking a team that was built by his predecessor on a two game win streak which included a W over Tulane?

Maybe Miami fans felt that way about Coker after the 2001 National Champs and 2002 runner-up seasons. He inherited one of the most talented rosters in history from Butch Davis. Then it all fell apart.

No one has a crystal ball. Kelly at least had an impressive record to go off of. Prior to coming to LSU, Kelly rattled off 5 straight 10+ win seasons. He also has a NC appearance. Most thought Notre Dame was holding back Kelly (whether through academic restrictions, lack of
in state talent, facilities). Turns out, most were wrong and he sucked. If anything, he held Notre Dame back from taking that next step and just completely checked out at LSU.

Think about this…if Smart stepped down, and Golding was on the open market and available, would you want UGA to hire him as HC? How many P4 programs do you truthfully believe would give him a shot…?

Did you not watch the game? They did, and they converted to go up by three.

After OM beat UGA I thought this could end up like State when they won their baseball title. Guy inherits a built teams, back into a title and gets fired 2 years later cause he caught lightning in a bottle and isn’t really a great head coach.

Given Golding didn’t win a title I’m guessing the natives grow restless mid-season next year. I don’t see him sustaining what Lane built.

Their current coach has a winning record in the playoffs. What other coach could they go hire that is better than that?

I hear Ed Orgeron is available

Naming him the head coach instead of interim was a big mistake. He'll be gone in 2 years though, so they can back channel their search now.

An overlooked point is that the game plan for the first two games was also already built as they were rematches.

The first time he faced a team without a pre-made game plan the difference showed.

In all fairnes, OM just got caught up in the heat of the moment. They encourage their athletic director to make a hasty decision based upon impulse and emotions. It’s understandable..

LSU did the exact same thing when we got rid of less miles and hired CEO and won a national championship. Maybe portal Pete will do the same thing.

The only reason they were in it was CWJ and luck. Goldings defense was horrendous. You could see on his face he was clueless and hoping to God Charlie and Tridsd would keep bailing him out
