OM fans, did Lane run a lot of wildcat?

In an effort to talk actual football.
I dont remember him doing that against us, but LSU used it pretty effectively last Saturday. A few times. It went in for a TD once.

I don't recall him using it that much.
Like all things offense, something becomes big and popular, defenses adjust, and it goes out of fashion.
Then years later someone brings it back and suddenly its effective again.
I expect to see more wildcat across the board this season.

LSU wasn't so much running wildcat. They just did direct snaps to the running back out of the shotgun a few times on short yardage situations with Leavitt also standing back there. And yeah, Lane did that at Ole Miss too.

He ran it some, mostly in short yardage and goal line. Seemed like he usually used bigger players, like a DT though.

Not a ton but he did use a DL as a short yardage rb for half a season.

I remember a handful of direct snaps to Lacey when Ole Miss was near the goal line. I don't know that I would Wildcat a lot between the 20s when you have a dynamic playmaker like Chambliss who can kill you on the RPO.

Lacy had some direct snaps last year. He would use DL's at times as well.

Only in short yardage situations. Last year it was mostly direct snaps to Lacy. In previous years without a power back we used D Line players.
Wouldn’t say it is a big part of his playbook, but he uses it when he wants the runner to get the ball a half second earlier to beat the rush.

Here and there. He used JJ Pegeus a lot in goal line stuff a few years ago, I guess because he was an athletic defensive lineman. Otherwise, he would do direct snaps to Lacy like he was doing with Jones the other night against Clemson.

It was rare. I suspect that he is not as impressed with Leavitt's passing ability and he's trying to scheme around it OR Leavitt is just that good at running the wildcat and he's using what works.

I think Saturday's use was probably based on two factors: (1) LSU hasn't run the ball effectively, and Kiffin wanted to establish that has changed; and, (2) they looked at the tape and knew Clemson was totally outclassed.
Not sure how much he'll use it going forward. It may be more of a "here's one more thing defenses will have to prepare for" element.

There are a few breakdowns on YouTube. Some say this O has evolved from what he ran in the past. The reviewer basically said “good luck” to anyone trying to stop it.

Clemson was opening up 20 yard gaps on each side on defense. LSU ran through that like Madonna's dildo.

I was truly shocked by how bad Clemson looked. LSU looked very good, but Clemson was really bad. Totally outclassed talentwise, slow, frankly poorly coached. Even Lane described the Clemson offense as "dysfunctional."
I thought LSU would win by 3 touchdowns, but Clemson isn't a top 50 team. Maybe not a top 75 team. The Dabo era has to be coming to an end. It's pretty clear he and Clemson have done all they can for each other.

Leavitt's pretty good at running the ball, but I suspect Kiffin isn't going to want him to risk injury running it as much once we get to conference play.
