My grandfather was a project manager on that beast. Got a picture of it in my office taking off from Pendleton. USMC 17 years, Northrop 17 years. RIP grandpa

Yeah, that’s badass. It’s also incredibly quiet when it flys overhead. (I know that’s the point of it being stealth, but it just seems so off).

I don't know if a waste. I think the pilots use the flying time as part of their annual required flying time. Free flyover and PR for USAF.

My BIL is a pilot in USAF, and, after I asked once how it works, it's basically something like this, though I don't know the technical terms for it. They're going to fly the hours anyway, so they let them do something that's good PR and a fun attaboy for the pilots with some of them.
