I believe hazing itself is also a federal crime, so there’s more he can be charged with.
Its not

You’re right. The laws that I was thinking of relate to hazing in the military.

Fraternities and sororities are the weirdest thing to me. A buddy of mine wanted me to “pledge”, “rush” or whatever it is they do and I asked why?
He couldn’t answer.
Weird...
You join so you have an instant membership and core group of people like you that you can socialize with and have activities with. Its also an instant social network that you carry with you the rest of your life. I mean you dont HAVE to be a member but its a hell of a lot of fun.

I would never list my fraternity on a resume. That's just weird.
Yeah, unless you knew the hiring manager looking at the resume was in that fraternity and knew he specifically would like seeing that, it's such a douche move to put your fraternity on your resume. That said, I had a blast in my fraternity while in college and am still very close with a lot of my fraternity brothers nearly 20 years later. On the other hand, I think guys who go to all the alumni events are losers.

Nothing like brotherly bonding.
I hope the family sues the organization into oblivion. The guy charged is also too stupid to even be hired at Whataburger in the future. He'll forever show in Google search background checks.

What amazes me is that this happened back in Oct and it didn't seem to make the news until about a week or two ago. Does anyone know the families involved? Pretty influential family?

A few bad apples making dumbass decisions doesn’t make the whole Greek system a bad thing. Greek organizations do a whole lot more good than the few instances of hazing/etc you see each year. Many College football players often get in trouble each year but that doesn’t make college football a bad thing.

Greek students makes better grades than non-greeks, they donate more time and money to philanthropy than non-greeks, they typically run most of the student government, and they give more money back to the university post-college than non-greeks. The hate for greeks is always so funny to me. You pay dues that pay for living, a meal plan, and parties that end up being less than students who live in the dorms or off-campus housing by a long-shot, and it makes a school of 30k+ students a lot more manageable to meet people and network. And most importantly, the volume of hot girls you have laid out in front of you on a regular basis should be enough to entice any 18-21 year old male to maybe want to go that route. The hardcore hazing stuff isn't the norm, but it's all you hear about in the news. The "hazing" I experienced, and most everyone I know experienced, was nothing more than being inconvenienced for a semester, but pledging was also really fun more times than not. It's probably not the life for everyone, but most of the bad things you hear is not based in reality for 99% of fraternities. Sure they can be elitist, but so are country clubs, private schools, and plenty of other organizations that don't receive the same treatment.

UF Pikes got in trouble for some rape allegations or something and were banned from campus. Not sure if any other Gators on here know the story and can elaborate.
Edit: googled “UF Pike” and this link came up immediately lol
