Ole Miss currently sits at #48 on 247 2017 Class Rankings list. The usual recruiting suspects like LSU, Bama, Ohio State, etc., are in the Top 10.

My question is two-fold:
- In recent years of OM recruiting prowess, have they lagged this far behind this time of year in team rankings and closed strong, or is this year an outlier; and
- If this year is different, do you think it is due to the NCAA investigation, and/or more scrutiny resulting in an inability to implement the measures that have allowed them to recruit so well in recent years (i.e., pay for play)?

There's no good answer here. No matter what any OM fan says it will be dissected and crucified. So I'll just say one thing, the investigation is slowing recruiting. It's pretty obvious.

LSU fans should probably worry more about beating the guys we have on campus than the 17 year olds we are recruiting.

This seems like a legit question. I mean the trolls WILL find and shite on this thread but the OP seems legit. I'm curious about this as well.

Last 4 years for Ole Miss:

2013 - 8th
2014 - 15th
2015 - 17th
2016 - 6th

I think when they've finished in the top 10 they've closed strong (big commits in Jan/Feb). Where they are now is likely not a sign of anything for 2017 recruiting. Look for those signs from Oct - Feb.

What I have been hearing is to expect some committs shortly after the reply is made public. But that could all be BS. We are still in on a lot of elite national recuriting we will just have to see how it goes.

My guess would be we finish in the 25 - 15 range still.

Fair enough. I can't imagine the NCAA issuing a ruling on sanctions before 2017 signing day anyway.

Well we responded so the NCAA has 60 days to accept it or reject it. If they do reject it then it is 6-8 weeks till we go to a hearing and they decide the punishment.

Best case in 60 days the NCAA likes our reply and they give us a punishment we are ok with. This is what happened with ULL.

Worst case they don't like the reply and we go to the hearing and it is ruled on durning the season.

I have no idea what the appeals process is if Ole Miss wants to fight the verdict of the hearing.

There does not appear to be a ranking list for where teams started to where they finish without reading a bunch of old articles, so no real way to tell who has been where in the past. Maybe somebody from SDS can tackle the question, we all need a good laugh.

For part 2 of the question, there has to be some effect from the fear of sanctions. OM needs to get this cleared up as quickly as they can or they could take a hit. The chance of sanctions coupled with the extra caution in payment handling has to be a concern for the top recruits.

Take it for what it's worth, but I've heard that we're sitting on some private commits that will go public as the NCAA thing wraps up, and that they haven't gone public out of respect for the NCAA and the process

The UNC stuff has been going on for years with no punishment. I think the OM situation in complicated since the Tunsil Draft stuff happened after the NOA was sent to Ole Miss. Just guessing, but I think this drags out for a while. I'd be surprised if a final resolution is in place before the 2017 season starts.

This is why I have a hard time seeing OM with another Top 10 class. The negative recruiting against them is going to be strong. Every recruit that is looking at OM is going to be told from multiple coaches that OM could be facing bowl bans in the future.

UNC was way more complicated that OM. UNC was making fake classes for athletes over a span of almost 20 yrs. OM basically revolves around recruitment issues of a handful of players. Apples and oranges. OM won't drag out nearly as long as UNC
