The NCAA enforcement staff opened an investigation of the Ole Miss football program the same day that Clemson coach Dabo Swinney accused Rebels coach Pete Golding of tampering with linebacker Luke Ferrelli.

According to documents obtained by ESPN through an open-records request, NCAA associate director of enforcement Scott McDonald emailed Ole Miss senior associate athletic director for compliance Taylor Hall on Jan. 23, a couple of hours before a news conference in which Swinney blasted Golding for allegedly tampering with Ferrelli, who, after transferring from California, had enrolled at Clemson before then leaving for Ole Miss.

"Thanks for speaking with us earlier today," McDonald wrote in the email to Hall. "As we discussed, the enforcement staff is opening an investigation into the football program at the University of Mississippi. Additionally, please let this email serve as a reminder that the institution and its representatives have an affirmative and automatic duty under Bylaw 19.2 to preserve all relevant materials."

Please request a sticky and keep us updated as this continues to unfold. Much like LSU fans did with Trinidad's NCAA Eligibility Hearing. I appreciate you caring about it even though you really don't care.

Only Ole Miss could cheat in the NIL era. Stinky Pete won’t last long and he’ll be back home coaching Hammond America High.

What did the president of the NCAA mean when he told the commissioner of the ACC that Ole Miss would be "dealt with"?

Nothing will come of it, but if we can get a few of these with Golding it will be fun

Ole Miss is a very unethical, low character institution.

Black Bears have never won shite but they’re #1 all-time when it comes to racism and cheating.

What an absolute joke of a program and university.
