Ole Miss also alleges that the terms of the contract are confidential
Is this even legal?

If LSU recruited these guys and told them to not worry about the buyout, and have no interest or intention of paying, that will come back to bite hard. Any kid who has a deal in place will be told the cautionary tale of the 2 guys who went there and had to pay buyouts out of their own pockets.
Hope the head in the sand ignore the lawyers strategy works for LSU!
They haven't ignored the lawyers. Old piss just has no ground to stand on and is about to start losing recruits over their mishandling of the situation. LSU looks like gold coming out of this situation to everyone except old piss fans. Enjoy being worse than moo state and vandy, lol.

Some firm with LSU boosters will defend them for nothing. The attorney's will likely request a change of venue, probably Oktibbeha County. It will drag on and on for years unless there's a settlement, and Ole Miss could end up paying more in legal fees than what it hopes to collect.

As already mentioned, many states disfavor non-compete clauses in employment contracts and will severely restrict them temporally and geographically. Admittedly, I'm not sure what the state of the law is in Mississippi is on non-competes,
They don't hold water. I know. I litigated one in 2015.

Disclosures are usually allowed to lawyers, accountants, tax professionals, and insurers who need to know the terms for legitimate business or legal work if a judge decides that the terms are confidential. All it takes is one of those 2 kids to tell other players though and it will spread amongst all the recruits though.

I figured there would be different confidentiality rules when one party is a public institution.

You think venues get changed purely due to a request with no grounds?

Look like some gold piss stains on a raggedy set of pants.
Multiple fans of other schools have chimed in on this thread agreeing with OM AD’s actions. Even some LSU fans agree with it too.

HA, not sure I can get too worked up arguing with someone working high school football camps and says old piss and moo state.

Many suspect this would be viewed as liquidated damages instead of a traditional non compete. I think that favors Ole Miss especially if there is a strong paper trail on how the buyout numbers were calculated and agreed upon prior to the contracts being signed.

Who, bama fans? Two of the most racist fan bases agreeing with one another. Imagine that, lol.

Yeah I'm sure that's why you are doing it. I'm a fan, but Ole Miss being the best team in the country or the worst doesn't really impact my life. Know it's a little different for some of you boys down in the bayou that live and die with LSU athletics. Might want to realize there's a little more to life than that.

holy shite....LSU fans slow down and read before screaming from the tree tops incorrect info.
It's been stated 42 differnt times....it's a buyout agreement, it's not a non compete, not a rev share, not a pay to play, not a contract forcing anyone to stay.
It's very simple...if you want to transfer out, you have to pay the contract fee to break the contract you willingly signed.
Coaches have them....they are just usually paid for my the school that hires away the new coach.

Why? What did they receive in return for "locking" themselves in with Ole Miss?
If nothing, the contract could be illegal and unenforceable, especially if the players allege they were coerced into signing it. Not that crazy when you remember Pete has publicly said he told players that Oxford would turn on them if they left.

A coach is an employee, players aren't. Two different sets of rules, some keep forgetting this.

Then they are independent contractors
who can be held to the stipulations of the contract.

A contractor usually cannot be bound by a buyout within a contract where they have received no consideration.
That's a one sided where the contractor assumes all the risk. Some here can't seem to understand that just because two people sign a contract doesn't mean it's enforceable.
Most non competes are a good example of this as many don't hold up in court despite being signed by both parties.

Do you remember when most of the LSU contract experts here assured us that LSU would not have to pay Brian Kelly’s buyout because he breached his employment contract and was fired for cause? Those were fun times.

Again, try and argue on here like you have hit puberty or at least have a grade school education.
This case will be interesting. At the end of the day the $1M isn't really going to matter to ole Miss or lsu. It will hurt the players if they have to pay as I'm not sure either is really an nfl player, but the interesting part is what it means for these contracts going forward. Miami had to pay off duke, the buyout kept demond Williams from going to lsu. How this is handled will have a big impact on college football.
