Riding the high horse while trying to bring in the players is comical literally the same thing LSU is doing.

He wants to do it within the framework of the rules.

At this point, I don't think anyone is opposed to "5 year players" per se.

What folks are opposed to are players that signed contracts with pro team, players that practiced with pro teams and players that played pre-season games with pro teams coming back to college for a 5th year...

Interesting. Is he alluding to guys that signed NFL contracts or 5th year guys in general…

OM has played the victim for months so hopefully it’s the latter.

He also specifically said only guys who would be eligible under the new SEC rules (so no NFL guys)

So he and you are ok with breaking some NCAA eligibility rules just not others.

LSU fans keep screaming they haven't broken any rules, so curious how you now think LSU hasn't broken any rules but Ole Miss would be

DIRECTLY from the article.

quote:

“To me, there are some fifth-years that, through whatever mechanism, whether it’s a TRO or an injunction, have become eligible, but they never signed a pro contract,” Carter added,

Exactly what I said. Most folks don't opposed 5th pear players. Covid already opened that box. They opposed players that have been associated with pro teams coming back to college. Geeze you folks are dense.

Rules weren’t rules two weeks ago.

Now there are rules that the SEC will try to penalize you if you play a player that was ruled ineligible and the courts said otherwise.

They wouldn’t have done any of that if they knew they were eligible for a 5th year.
No leadership was transparent with them.

If the SEC allows ineligible players to play then we should get ineligible players.

I will happily have the SEC institute heavy fines and sanctions for playing ANY player deemed by the NCAA ineligible and know that lane would too.

Until then we should pursue every avenue to operate as our competition is.

My question is would you be happy with the same rule?

5 for 5 specifically does not apply to the 2022 class.

This is per the NCAA.

The players that he and you are discussing are ineligible by the ncaa.

You can speculate, but you cannot say that definitively.

The NCAA INTENTIONALLY didn't make the 5-for-5 rule retroactive. So the 2022 class had already exhausted its eligibility under the old 4-for-5 rules in 2025-26, and the NCAA's transition rule explicitly says those athletes get no additional eligibility. The new rule applies to the appropriate incoming/current classes, not retroactively to everyone who had already finished.

So “they wouldn't have done any of that if they knew they were eligible” is backwards. They weren't eligible under the rules in effect when they made those decisions, and the NCAA explicitly decided the new 5-for-5 rules would not apply to them.
