Do any of y’all remember a Saturday night radio show on AM radio…I think out of New Orleans..:hosted by The Chief? Back before internet and when college football was truly college football and radio was where you got your fix. I was a teenager when I started listening living in central Arkansas. Saturday nights and fans calling in was great.

I am old enough to remember the best college sports radio guy as a young man.

I can remember Kern Tips and the Humble Oil broadcasts. The voice of the SWC.

WWL 870 out of New Orleans, is probably one of few you could get in Arkansas. Deke Bellavia was known as the Chief on that station.

I have actually picked up the Chief up near St. Louis

I remember WWL in NOLA, and the illegally powerful country music station in Del Rio, Texas. The transmitter was just across the border in Mexico to defeat bandwidth rules!

Believe it or not... I remember listening to LSU games at night over that station in northern Oklahoma. As a kid I remember how I thought the PBP guy talked funny...
And later in life I actually became friends with a guy who was from Cordell, OK (Western OK) who was an LSU fan. I asked him how come he was an LSU fan and he told me it was because he listened to those games on Saturday night...
I think that signal is still going and you can still get it up here at night.

Nobody was ever better than “Leonard’s Losers”.

Pretty much the same experience listening to those night games back before we had all day and all night tv games. Then The Chief would have a long post game show. They covered mainly LSU…but the Saints would be talked about some and every Louisiana directional
School and maybe some HS thrown in there as well.

Signal is still but it is t the same show post game. No more Chief or call ins and I don’t care to listen anymore. Of course…now there is no shortage of cfb talk and info but back 20 to 40 years ago you weren’t overwhelmed with media

I used to hook up my extra-long antenna to my receiver to get WWL in South Carolina back in the day.
