the entry door creaks courtesy of an old door spring older than your mama or grandma
you first notice that good smell of old fruit from years past still lingering in the store and then you see the Coca Cola cooler
my nomination here today is this little store in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky where Loretta Lynn went to fetch some cornmeal for they supper a couple thousand times

Your store has a big pepsi sign and a pepsi machine out front.

I forgot to say sometimes the entry door itself with the creaky springs are often two or three slabs of plywood slapped together because of God knows what reason
Those creaky slamming plywood doors helped raise us all
If there was food actually being prepared in the back of the store, Lord have mercy

My great grandparents owned a tiny store in nowhere west Alabama. I have a little memorabilia like a big glass jar with their logo. For its size it’s crazy heavy
I’d post pictures but it’s abandoned and might just be a crackhouse

And Arky takes the off-season lead using their star poster. If he can avoid injuries, he might single-handedly lead the Hogs to glory.

Mine too- well I don’t know about that tiny but I assume it started that way.k for sure. They sold food, shoes, hats even some small farm equipment. We had an old metal barrel for decor in our basement when I was a kid that was weathered and had a logo on it for whatever ice cream cones they sold. How that exactly worked I’m not sure but my dad used to sell them there when he was a kid. The old pics of the place are awesome.

My dad had a store in a tiny Louisiana town. Even though the town was very small, there were 4 stores. One owned an butcher house that only did pork. All the stores sold meat from the butcher shop store at their cost. A pork chop was the same price in every store. Each one specialized in one type of merchandise except for my dad. He had the general store. Vet supplies, hardware, and groceries.
His store is very similar to the country stores I see when I drive in rural Mississippi.
