In the Big 12, teams hope to beat OU and UT,

In the SEC, teams expect to beat OU and UT.

Yep. Ed O just won a natty and had a down covid year where he had a whole new team and staff that weren't given the opportunity to gel in the offseason and many LSU fans want him gone already. It's the ultimate "what have you done for me lately" conference and Texas definitely hasn't done anything. OU has made the playoffs a lot but all of those teams would've had 3 or 4 losses in the SEC.

Oklahoma made the playoffs while having the worst defense in college football most years. At least one of those years, it was ranked 130th.
But Grinch is turning it around. Our defense was around 40th last year. We expect better results this year.

This is a gay thread. Not something I would expect from a Bama fan. The only thing we expect is to be whooping that arse next year. Speaking for OU of course. You probably have it right for Texas.

We finished 29th in total defense last year.

I hate OU but 3 or 4 losses? To who? Bama, LSU and who else? Georgia in 19? We beat them. Quit acting like OU can't play football. OU has lost to some high quality SEC teams, but they've throttled their fare share too.

Honestly OU's history and tradition is based on playing against teams that, at best, are in the lower half of schools in all time wins. Yes, you played Nebraska and yes you played Texas, but honestly OU plays a two game schedule. Think about having to play at Florida, then Mississippi State at home, Georgia on the road, and Alabama comes to call. That does not include LSU or Auburn.

OU has never played a schedule like they will face in the SEC, ever. I hope your S and C coach is up for the task, or OU will be overwhelmed.

Like they have been in every game that has a NC implication against an SEC team.

OU is going the way of NU.

Agree with this. Just looking forward to great home games again and fun travel games! The proof will be at the end of the game.

Since there is a movement here to diminish OU's historical accomplishments and to assume that OU and NU were not great programs, and since back in the day OU just didn't play any SEC teams, I'll list NU's record against the SEC from the '70s through the '90s.

1970 vs LSU* - won 17-12 (beat OU 28-21)
1971 vs Alabama* - won 38-6 (beat OU 35-31)
1974 vs Florida - won 13-10 (lost to OU 28-14)
1975 vs LSU - won 10-7 (lost to OU 35-10)
1976 vs LSU - tied 6-6 (lost to OU 20-17)
1977 vs Alabama* - won 31-24 (lost to OU 38-7)
1978 vs Alabama* - loss 3-20 (split with OU)
1980 vs Miss St. - won 31-17 (lost to OU 21-17)
1981 vs Auburn - won 17-3 (lost to OU 37-14)
1982 vs Auburn - won 41-7 (beat OU 28-24)
1982 vs LSU - won 21-20
1984 vs LSU - won 28-10 (lost to OU 17-7)
1986 vs LSU* - won 30-15 (lost to OU 20-17)
1995 vs Florida* - won 62-24 (beat OU 37-0)
1997 vs Tenn* - won 42-17 (beat OU but can’t find the score. ;-)
1999 vs Tenn - won 31-21

* - SEC champions

Many of these were bowl games and since most years of the '70s and '80s OU was in the Orange Bowl we didn't match up against the SEC often.

So, anyway, in the '70s through '90s NU was 14-1-1 against the SEC. None of those were SEC bottom feeders. The majority of those years NU lost to OU.

NU was 4-1 against SEC champions.

Also if you look back at the records, many Big 8/12 games were closer than the games against SEC teams.

One last point, in the Big 8/12, there was always at least one really good team outside of OU/NU/UT. Colorado was a juggernaut in the '90s. Oklahoma State had great teams in the '80s. Missouri had some really good teams in the '70s.

And, finally, OU always played teams like Miami, FSU, Ohio State, USC, Alabama, Tennessee. Not all were up when we played them but not all of the top tier SEC teams are up in any given year.

It is true that the Big 12 schedules have declined in the last decade. Nobody denies that.

This is profound. And definitely thread-worthy. I, for one, am glad you posted this. Thank you.

Texas is gonna be in for a rude awakening. They'll be having 7-9 win seasons a lot more than they seem to think.

Oklahoma will be successful but they are going to have a lot more 2 and 3 loss seasons than they seem to think.

Both have the resources necessary to compete, but what their fans don't seem to realize is damn well everyone in this conference does.

UK is a perfect example. We'd be 2 3 or 4 in attendance in every other conference, but get shat on because we're what...11th or 12th in the SEC? Same for recruiting. We finish in the 20-30 range with our recruiting classes every year. Good enough for 12th or 13th in the SEC every year.

Just saying, expect an extra loss or two each season that what yall are accustomed to. Because that shite is happening.

I read the tide fans response about how most years OU only plays 2 hard games a year and blah blah. It made me laugh. Yea the big 12 has been weaker since Colorado/ A&M / miz/ NU have left. Let’s not start tooting the whole SEC’s Horn yet though. Playing in the west most years is a murders row, I’ll give you that. Especially if you are auburn(or LSU) with your cross rivals game being Georgia(or UF) plus having to play bama, LSU, and A&M every year. After that if you did great you get to play UF or Georgia again for the championship. Let’s be clear though, almost every year OU plays AT LEAST as tough a schedule as the east. I mean Georgia has Florida/auburn. So most years 2 hard games IF both schools are good. then you get the monster from the west for the championship(and once a decade in the regular season). I can understand telling us we aren’t ready for the daunting task of playing in the west. Even if I don’t agree with you completely, I can see the point trying to be made. For the east though......

For a lot of teams in the Big 12, football is not a big deal, that is not true in the SEC.

Every team, well except Vanderbilt, wants to take your head off and has the tools to do it. Someone pointed out the OU/UF game, now think if OU played UF, then played MSU, and followed that by playing Georgia. It is not one game, it is the grind of playing teams week after week.

In the SEC east, three teams have won NC during their time, some multiple times. However, for now, it is the weaker division, yet UGA played for the NC just 3-4 years ago

The late 60's and early 70's were the halycon days of the Big 8, no doubt. But since 1980, Big 12/Big 8 teams combined won 7 NC, the SEC East has won 5.
