I love Arkansas uses the west is too hard excuse but also won all their games in the west before Saban took power
I'm sure it's just coincidence that Mizzou fell off a cliff the moment a couple of the traditional East powers got their collective acts together.

As much as I am enjoying watching the collapse going on in Norman, it is nothing like the John Blake 1996/1997 season seasons.
Blake went 7-16 and endured
- 69-7 and 73-21 losses to Nebraska
- a 51-7 loss to A&M
- Lost to Kansas twice including the 54-24 drubbing in 96
The main difference is that when Blake first got to OU...
Many people were skeptical because it doesn't take long listening to Blake in order to figure out that he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed.
There is a whole back story about why John Blake got the job at OU... and none of it has anything to do with whether he was head coaching material.
With Venables... expectations were high because there is nothing about Venables that indicates that he wouldn't be a good coach.
Guys like Teddy Lehman (former Butkus winner and now radio guy) announced that Brent was going to win a national championship by year four. That was the kind of energy that was around the hire.
He has floundered badly. This program is not one bit better and is probably worse than when he took Riley's leftovers in '22.
So I think in that regard it is worse than Blake... because the expectations were way higher.

The dude had to sign steal to be successful at Clemson.

He’s still doing it. Two guys in the booth with binoculars in the Bama game.

Wrong, it happened when Pinkel got cancer and retired.

Navy’s first win against the SEC since 1955. Great job, OU!

Holy shite what an awful 2 point conversation attempt. Wtf OU.
I see this so often. QBs stupid enough to take a sack or actually throw it away on a 2-point try. You throw it into the EZ and take your chances. Same for 4th down. No sacks, no throwaways.
And maybe Venables is an idiot if he didn't emphasize that to Hawkins before the 2-point try.

See you in Norman next year.
I’ll be there with ten. You should worry about being able to field a team at this point.

They beat an OU team that lost 30% of its players to the porta hardly close to full strength.

Do SEC teams need to be full strength to beat Navy?
That was embarrassing. Notre Dame beat them 51-14 and it wasn't that close.
OU fans need to prepare themselves for another very disappointing season next year. Their team is a lot of players away from becoming a contender in the SEC.
Navy didn't have 5 guys who'd have gotten an offer from an SEC school. OU had no excuse. The program is in shambles.

I question if Oklahoma is able to compete with the top 10 NIL programs in this new era. I’m not even sure they’re a top 15 NIL program. I don’t love everything about NIL and this portal era but…it is what it is.

I’d take that bet any day of the week.

Wow Arky fans sure chirp a lot. The only thing I know about their school is that it gives Mizzou an auto win in its last regular season football game every year. Thanks for the win donation pig fans.

Let’s play a game: what program is this?
2014: 6-7
2015: 5-7
2016: 5-7 Head coach fired.
2017: 7-6
2018: 10-4
2019: 8-5
2020: 7-3 Head coach fired.
2021: 5-7
2022: 8-5
2023: 12-2
-10 year record: 73-53 (.579)
-Record against arch rival: 3-8 (.273)
-3 different head coaches
Never, ever talk about being the Nebraska of any conference ever again. Because Texas was just as pathetic, even more so considering the wealth of resources available.

Regarding Venables: quit being dramatic. This is not within the realm of John Blake.
The guy had a horrible offense and a good defense. He got his guys on offense now, so let him prove he can put it all together.
Glad you and a few others in our fanbase don’t call the shots because you’re way too trigger happy and not see the forest for the trees.
