Surprised he lasted this long as he had so few friends left at the top of Athletic Department and Board of Trustees. They went after him in 2020 and he had to crawfish by reducing his salary. He was getting heat in 2024, where he restructured his contract again.

Fans were openly calling for him to be fired during games. Losing by 63 to Oregon and the dropping a game to Tulsa is a fire able offense even for a franchise coach like this one.

I remember Gundy's high school days playing for my school's nemesis, the Midwest City Bombers.

Mike was a prized recruit and I was disappointed he did not sign with OU.

We did get his brother though . . .

I think he’s still a great ball coach. If he landed at an established program where the NIL stuff runs itself essentially, I bet he’d return to form.

That would be interesting to see his results at another university. He certainly wouldn’t get the grace he did at OSU being a recognized former player. Including his playing and coaching days, he has been apart of all but one of the double digit win seasons in their school history.

He should go to the Big 10, less competition he might be able to have a schematic advantage.

Or I could see him going to like Kentucky, maybe Florida (probably not though), or Vandy if their coach leaves for greener pastures

Sad for them?

They are probably already congregating on Washington Street celebrating this.

If Kansas can win football games there is no reason OSU can’t. Idk what their NIL is like exactly but they have a pretty loayal fan base. Talent wise they’ve just fallen off the map. Losing their starting QB first week didn’t help.

Give the points the rest of the season, the players are done.

What was it, 10-15 years ago when Gundy had them hovering around in the top 5 for successive years?

He is a man he is almost 60. That said, he took okie state to the highest level possible given their situation. They were basically MTSU before Gundy and Johnson.

Maybe it was his statement about the NIL era being like being married to your spouse. Maybe he thought he could pull of a Mike Leach type statement.

2011 was his peak. He was one weird loss against Iowa State away from playing for the Natty.

His teams were competitive for awhile afterwards but nothing of that caliber except for 2021. That was also a good team in the Top 10 until once again he lost a random game against unranked Iowa State. That season also had the goal line miss against Baylor in the Big 12 title game when the Pokes were ranked 5th.

I can see him going to UNLV after Mullen leaves for a bigger program. They seem to do well with recycled coaches.

Mike Gundy has been MIA. Idk what his deal has been.

With Pickens gone, sounds like no one is interested in funding the program.

Gundy won 1 B12 title in 20 years. And Texas wasn’t even relevant for 10 of those. He would not win at LSU

He’s 2 seasons away from appearing in the big 12 championship game. 2024 and this year are bad. But I don’t think he should have been fired. I would have given him 1 more year. Esp if they aren’t giving him the funds for nil.

Ya they were salty. That 2011 season they were one game short of making the BCS championship. Lit some teams up. Tough place to play back then

Gundy to Texas as OC? Yes, please.

Either way, Sark should really consider hiring him as an advisor for this year.

I see a conflict of interests in that Bro. Doesn't Sarkisian call the offense? I don't see him ready to give that up just yet.
