The only argument that could be made is better overall resume (with a UGA win) and that Alabama has proven to be better than they were in September. Personally, I don't think the resume difference is big enough to discount the head to head result and I don't think "getting better" really matters in terms of picking teams.

So if Washington had lost to Oregon St, should Wash have remained where they are (one spot above Oregon) since they would’ve had identical records and the head to head?

I don’t think it’s as black and white as both teams are 12-1 and one of them beat the other at the start of the season.

If other variables (strength of schedule, performance trajectory, eye test, etc…) aren’t to be collectively considered, Oregon should be behind both Texas and Bama right now

1. Bama played back up QBs only
2. Torrential downpour further complicated both teams passing

Milroe would’ve been good for 1-2 more TDs, and given the weather I wouldn’t have been upset with a winning 24 or 31 to 3

They should be ahead of Oregon, yea.

Texas as a program still doesn’t have the ability to play dominant football every week. However, we typically show up for big games. I’d be happy about playing bama in the playoff. They aren’t better than us if we have our A game and Sark is a witch with plenty of time to scheme an opponent.

Can you share where the committee admits they use the eye test? Because I'm pretty sure the entire point of the selection committee is to AVOID using the subjective, undefined "eye test".

I think they acknowledged they used it as a part of their evaluations on one of the ranking shows. I forget which.

If Oregon wins out they have 2 more ranked wins (Oregon state and Washington), which will add to that SOS.

Should they be ranked ahead currently? No. They jumped Texas when they beat Utah at home, now we look at Utah and they’ll probably be unranked. It’s shame but it is what it is.

Texas due to the head to head win in Tuscaloosa.

However, I never thought there would be a scenario that the best team could possibly be left out of the playoffs when it expanded to four teams.

But, if Alabama ended up beating Georgia convincingly in the SECCG there would be a lot of people who would consider them the overall best team.

Also, ironic that their loss could have been to almost ANY team other than 12-1 Texas and they'd perhaps be the #1 seed in that scenario.

I'll just say this: erase "Bama" and put the name of literally any other school in their place and are we even bothering to have this conversation? There's your answer.

I used to think head to head matchups mattered and that was back when they could only select two teams At least in this hypothetical Alabama would have at least won the West and the SEC

I don't think November Texas would beat November Alabama but that's not how this stuff works.

Really just highlights the fault of the 4-team playoff. It really disincentivizes playing tough games. Alabama didn't make the field over TCU when they pretty clearly should have. TCU only made the committee look smart because someone told their coach that Michigan was stealing signals ahead of it becoming widely known in the coaches community. If Alabama goes 12-1 and doesn't make it because of a Texas loss then what was the point of playing those two games?

Got no respect for playing an incredibly difficult schedule in 2022 but TCU got the pass for basically fluking their way to 12-1. Hypothetically, get bounced due to h2h loss in 2023. Every AD would read that loud and clear within a few years.

Thankfully, the 12-team playoff is going to make 2-loss teams a regular feature in the playoffs so there should be no disincentive from scheduling respectably outside the conference schedule.

I don't give a shite. I don't think Texas has the secondary to win the CFP and I don't give a flying frick about "making the playoff" so it seems like a lot of handwringing over shite that doesn't really matter in the end.

Bama plays a real schedule

Big 12 is the weakest it’s been since inception, conference USA is tougher

I think that Bama is playing better football right now. I think Bama would beat them if they played again. I think Bama’s resume will be better, if they both win out. However, I know what happened when they played this season. Texas should and would get the nod, if it came down to those 2 teams for one spot.

I thought the same way early in the season, turns out the ones that truly suck are the new Big12 teams. While we're on the subject, the SEC hasn't quite looked like world beaters outside of Georgia and Bama hitting their stride mid season. Auburn just lost to NMSU ffs and aggy, pig and Gata are awful this year.

Eh, I believe we are better right now. But they beat us heads up. So we need help to jump them.
