They didn't do that on purpose. They opted to stay in their base defense the entire game because it's just what they do, but it also allowed Sark to quickly identify the weak spots and create nightmare matchups that their style of defense prevented them from getting out of. PFF wrote a good article on it.

on 1/13/21 at 11:24 am to skrayperOnce OSU lost their two best DL due to Covid, they had to find a way to get some pressure on Jones. Their hands were tied at that point and resulted on many mismatches in the secondary. That has been the problem all season.
