Obvious that Bama high tech player development move didn't happen in a vaccum

* Cochran has been effective but he doesn't fit the new Sports Science operation mold. Plus everyone has a shelf life. Those things in addition to his smart move to try to get an on field position at Alabama and failing that UGA are telling.

* This hire has been in the works a while. Two guys, two families and two futures don't happen in a week, period.

* There are no secrets among SEC coaches. Especially those who worked together. The options for Cochran that we know about were Kiffin's club and Smart's staff. He made a smart move and took a better future on the field since he wants to be a head coach. Good move for all parties and hopefully it works out.

* Bama is plainly moving to a new era in off field player development. Will it pay dividends? Sometimes you out kick your coverage so stay tuned. At the same time those who sit still get left behind. Remember the WSJ story about LSU's new hire of an outfit that made advances electronically that helped their off field training tremendously last year?

The move has been in the works and he would have left with Kirby initially but Cochran just had to get that A1abana retirement first.

This is just sad, even sadder than when the not quite as sad sacks do it correctly.

It was a response to L8U, and yes it’s very sad

Almost as sad as taking a loss at home with your GOAT quarterback and 4 future NFL receivers.

But not quite!

About as sad as getting shut out at home 29 -0 with the best QB in college football history. Or losing to a team 8 years in a row.

Thought he was going for Albania but in retrospect I doubt he has ever even heard of it.

After the 2018 game in which Bama beat LSU badly.. Orgeron did three things.. he went to the OC and said we are going to the spread/RPO are you in or out? E said in.. He then went to Moffitt the strength and conditioning coach.. we have to change and get more explosive/stronger..we have to get better.. then he publicly stated we had to get bigger and stronger lineman.

In 2019 LSU did all three. The incoming D line recruiting class has taken our D line to another level... the rest of the league (coaches) probably know this.. LSU D line talent was still average at best in 2019. The D line depth and talent for 2020 and forward is a good bit better.

What ever. Going to be a very interesting 2020. The pundits are going back with Old reliable Bama and Georgia as favorites.. even after both showed their vulnerabilities last year. Keep thinking that as LSU sets up to clean their clocks again

All of this is correct.

It appears Saban knew about Cochran's move last year. That's when the Sports Science Center ball got rolling.

Ballou and Dr. Rhea have turned down several blue-blood CFB programs and in the past 2 years has turned down 5 NFL teams.
The duo is well-known in the industry as the best.

So Saban started on a project last year that would differentiate Bama's offer from the rest.
From someone close to Ballou...

The CFB industry couldn't understand how they stayed. Everyone in the industry knew who they were. From 3 NFL teams last year, to any "blue blood" that had an opening, potential opening, or a HC looking to improve. They stayed every time.

So what is the difference now? It's not just that it is Bama. Of course that is a huge draw...but their new Sport Science center is the diamond nobody else can match. Ballou and Rhea will literally be able to write the book on the next steps in the industry, and pave the way for the next generation of sport performance. THAT is a once in a lifetime deal.

Alabama is taking a technology and science-driven approach.

Cochran obviously didn't fit that. He had the best S&C in 2009.
The problem was he was still running it in 2019. It was obviously outdated.

IU's injuries went down a tremendous % under the duo. That definitely played a role in Saban wanting them.

Where is the record that they turned down 5 nfl jobs? Cause they're saying it about themselves? Getting a preliminary interview is not a job offer, dear.

LSU already made this move with current personnel.

You didn't know who this big tit Egg Head was three days ago.

Just spewing nonsense from Cece Hurts

The truth is your lazy coach is star watching and signing soft players.

It is that simple.

Was Cochran's shelf life 12 years, precisely when he left bama, or did saban keep him on after his shelf life expired?
