I'd have to say we are done here. That is a fairly stout schedule historically speaking. Now did they get a boost in that some of the teams that are traditionally power houses weren't so great this year?
Yep. But that happens.
Look at Alabama's schedule this year as an example. Georgia is a very good team, but Tenn, Auburn, Arkansas, Louisville, and Ole Miss were all down this year. A&M, Mizzou, Moo State, and LSU are good but not elite.
Even with the cupcake games that list of teams would usually be a nightmare to get through but Alabama clowned everyone except for Georgia this year.
Some years you get lucky. Notre Dame got lucky this year, but they took care of their business.

This sounds a lot like "Florida State was #3 when we beat them!"

Not being in a conference actually hurts their chances of getting into the playoffs. I know that might sound crazy considering they are in this year. But they have no room for error. They basically have to go undefeated since they don't have a conference championship game to help erase a loss. At some point they will get left out of the playoff with only one loss, and hopefully that will spur them to join a conference. I was hoping it would be this year, but unfortunately them going undefeated and making it in this year will prolong their conference independence.

If you don't think a schedule of 3 ACC teams, FSU Michigan, Stanford, and USC isn't a good schedule then you are dumber then a bag of hammers.
Did they catch a break and some of teams were down? Sure they did, but its still a better schedule then, for instance, Ohio State played this year. Except that Notre Dame didn't get slapped around like a cheap hooker by Purdue.

They need to play in the SECE.

Nah, it's just this year they got lucky from a teams were down sense and unlucky from a schedule strength sense.
Last year they got some of the opposite, Georgia ended up being a top 2 team and when that game was scheduled they were a Top 15 type team.

Yep, ND should have played Clemson in the ACC game last Saturday. What would have happened to ND after Clemson beat them by 21? I'm guessing OSU or UGA would have gotten their spot.
The committee really needs to force the issue on conference championship games. If not, conferences should eliminate them entirely. It's an unnecessary risk.

Notre Dame didn't play Purdue. We both of our common opponents a lot worse than they did.
What else?

It ends up evening out year-to-year. It wasn't just UGA last year: NC State ended up being a top 20 caliber team, Stanford won the PAC 12 North, USC won the PAC 12 and made the Rose Bowl, Miami was much better than they had been for most of this decade, Michigan State was decent, etc.
Next year's schedule looked crazy a few years ago when it was set, but it's softened up a little but still difficult. Never really know year to year - can just try to schedule as many solid programs as you can and go from there.

Who did UGA beat? Auburn, Florida and UK?
And the Tennessee team that whipped your arse in your own stadium...ending their 11-game SEC losing streak.

People are just pissy that notre dame actually ended up winning all their games, in a fluky year that most of the "big" teams they faced (USC, VT, FSU) all had down years at the same time. This is an anomaly.
:kige:
Normally they are respectable, this year the teams they played were bad at the same time.
Would have been interesting if Irish had played UCF when the P5's were playing the CCG's. I know this was not going to happen but getting to play Memphis a second time @ home was not exactly making UCF look better. That being said, the better match would have been Clemson vs Notre Dame last weekend but this may just take time. Notre Dame with weak schedule (not all their fault) and no 13th game (clearly their fault) will not get love from the conference commissioners of the P5's who lost a spot to a suspect IND.
Notre Dame took the place of a B1G or SEC school and no PAC even in the hunt put 3 conferences as hurt by ND.

I think you just proved his point

Yea, I don't think you can really fault Notre Dame for scheduling in general.

That's only 4 games. Who are the rest?

Absolutely. 8 game playoff with automatic conference champs would be ideal and you are correct it’s pointless to risk injuries playing these games.
