There's zero chance they come to the SEC. There's too many big fish already there.

If they join it should be all sports. No matter where they land.

You gotta love it when some idiot looking for clicks takes Bevacqua's statement that, the only P4 commissioner he's talked with since Sunday is Sankey, and spins that into the SEC is talking with Notre Dame about taking them in as a member.

This has to be a leverage play by ND. They must want a Sweetheart deal with the big10 and are flirting with the SEC to get it. Do they want a bigger share than every other school in the big10?

Some time in February he'll call the ACC commissioner and say, "y'know, we didn't really mean all that. Just for show, all it was."
Hopefully the ACC replies"screw you" and hangs up.
But they won't.

Holy shite. This conference is already deep enough. Why the hell are we talking to them?!
Is Sankey deliberately trying to sabotage the conference?

It seems probable that what’s happening now is more about maintaining strong scheduling/partnership relations (games, media interest, playoff access) between ND and SEC schools — not serious realignment.

I would tell them to pound sand.

This is all about ND negotiating with the B1G, that's the logical spot for both of them. The TV contracts and many other things are very complicated with that though and ND needs leverage not to get bent over like some of the other schools did when they joined as essentially junior partners. Ohio State and Michigan run that ship and ND doesn't want to be their bitch.
As for the SEC I mean it works in theory of course but it would be a terrible fit. Just a complete cultural clash on every level, I just can't see it.
Make no mistake though there are a lot more parts moving than this and it is all about Super Conferences. A big chip to fall was always going to be forcing ND to join a conference.

There are plenty of Catholics in the South, they are not regional they are national. Closer to South end than Norman or Austin by a lot for 70% of the SEC. NDU have hated each other for decades. Big has tried to force them in prior and did not go well.

frick that...all that would do is save ND

Geographically it doesn't make sense. Obviously takes the Southeast thing out of the picture, but some would argue that's already happened with Mizzou and Oklahoma in the conference.
But culturally, it could be a fit. There are still tons of rednecks in Indiana that are Notre Dame fans (and nationwide), just without the southern accent.
Sankey would be stupid to say no, the money would make too much sense.

I don't have any inside information so this is just my personal opinion of what this discussion could potentially be about. Pete Bevacqua is on the College Football Playoff Management Committee along with Greg Sankey (SEC), Jim Phillips (ACC), Tom Petitti (BIG 10) and 6 other Conference Commissioners.
I think this meeting is about expanding the Playoffs next year. With all the money that is involved in College Football now and specifically the playoffs, this most likely is the next step for College Football.
If the playoffs had expanded to 16 this year, the 4 additional teams would have been: Notre Dame, BYU, Texas and Vanderbilt. If it was enacted last year, the 4 additional playoff teams would have been: Alabama, Miami, Ole Miss, and South Carolina.
Before becoming Athletic Director at Notre Dame in 2024, Bevacqua (an ND alum) was Chairman of NBC Sports and was instrumental in expanding their Olympics coverage, Big 10 Saturday Night Football on NBC, and Sunday Night Football on NBC, along with other Sports coverage. Once again, this is only a guess.....

ADs talk to each other every day. Nothing to see here.

They would never join the sec and be in 10th place annually

Why would the SEC do this?
Because the big 10 would love to have Notre Dame and the SEC doing an agreement that let's them stay indipendent hurts the big 10
That's my guess anyway

Yeah let’s add another team so we’ll never get to play them.
Posted on 12/9/25 at 4:16 pm to hawgfaninc
I’m not sure why any conference would accommodate ND in at this point. Let them stew in the situation of their own making.
They’re all about themselves and I only themselves. There’s not an ounce of “team player” in their DNA.
F that.
