Similar to Alabama and LSU...we are both programs struggling to make the 12 team playoffs for the first time.

If he wins 7 games this year, with this schedule, with this rebuild… I will be convinced Lebby is the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi and nobody could convince me otherwise.

Yeh, coach of the year would be an understatement if he won 7 games this year. Coach of the century. Immediate induction into college football HOF.
We're going to win 2-4 games. I really hope it's 4, and I will be legitimately satisfied with a 4 win season.

You just need rich motivated boosters for NIL. True NIL value with businesses have nothing to do with it except for maybe the top QBs etc.

Their mistake was not naming Arnett as an Interim coach. They just threw him straight into the deep end and he was nowhere near ready. The smart thing would have been to name him interim with no power to fire staff while you look for the right guy as HC.
They did name hi the interim coach. The the rest of our conference started poaching recruits before Leach's funeral and the decision was made that we needed to solidify recruiting by naming a guy who would eventually drive naked through a Las Vegas Wendy's drive thru as the permanent head coach.
Then we go 5-7, ending a streak of 13 consecutive bowl games. They make the decision to fire him before the season's end, and we get an unproven Lebby that gioes 2-10 and in reality, 4-8 this season is a realistic ceiling.
The schedule turns around next year a little, but its going to be tough. The worst thing you can do in Mississippi is have success and leave for greener pastures. The fact that Dan Mullen is coaching at UNLV just pisses me off. We should have hired him back.
Its going to be a rough year. We're 14 point favorites in the opener against Southern Miss and I am a little uneasy about it. We'll beat our FCS opponent, but if you lose to USM, you have a Northern Illinois team that beat Notre Dame last season and a playoff Arizona State squad that is favored in the Big 12 in your non conference. And I don't see a winnable SEC game unless Arkansas just implodes.
I'll go on the record and say that week 2 home game against Arizona State will be interesting and I think its "the game" for Lebby. We lost 30-23 in the desert last year and their running back had 260+ yards. He's not there anymore. If we have had any improvement, we should have a chance to win this game.

What Zach Arnett did to that team was a joke. He took a 9 win team to the dumpster.... over night.
Question is, would MSU fanbase donated to NIL if he was still alive or would they treat it like they have. Can't make chicken salad with Chicken shite

That would have been the right move. It would have immediately injected life into the program and he also knows how to run the MSU program. Going with 2 consecutive HCs while needing to rebuild was stupid on the administration's part.

Yes, the 2023 team was set up to be a 8-9 maybe even 10 win type season had Leach been the HC. NIL was just really getting going then. So the money would have been coming in to maintain that success.
2024 was already going to be a bit of a down year even with Leach as the HC. But it would not have been a 2-10 season.
The continuity of the program was totally destroyed with the conundrum of events that happened.
And it will take some time to get us back to a competitive level. But this year we will see some improvement and hopefully the stability of the coaching staff will start to pay off as well.
Not nearly as bleak as a year ago. A few rays of sun are sneaking through the dark clouds.

They might have had the worst defense in SEC history last year. It was unreal how untalented they were. And this is a program that has put A LOT of defensive players in the NFL the last 15 years. They shouldn’t be as bad this year with some portal additions and some additions to the coaching staff (namely Mike McIntyre and Paul Rhoads as analysts) but they still aren’t going to be good on defense. That corner room is still likely the worst in the SEC and it may not be close.
Offensively, I’m honestly not sure what to expect. It is a fun offense when it’s humming, but they had some very bad OL play at times last year and had to start a true freshman QB that’s now the backup at LSU for two thirds of the year. Shapen I think is solid when he’s healthy, but not sure if he can stay healthy. The good news is the young QB talent behind him, while raw, is the most QB talent State has ever had in the room at the same time. Strong RB room. Talented but unproven at WR. OL is definitely the X factor.
Brutal schedule is the biggest problem. This team could be significantly better than it was last year and still only win 4 or 5 games.

5 wins. I can see a W at south Car and a coin toss at Auburn and UK. So 8 wins maybe. I cannot see 10 wins.

The mistake was making him HC in any capacity. It was to "keep the team/recruiting class together" because he said he would stick with the air raid and he would stay focused on defense
Well, he immediately hired all his own guys and completely abandoned the air raid. It takes time to flip a roster full of Leach guys.
We will be a litter better this year but it's still going to be a long year

Ms State doesn’t belong in the SEC. Terrible at everything
Posted on 7/17/25 at 11:45 am to BCreed1
i expect to be much improved, but thats not saying much for a 2 win team.
i think we will be competitive and make a push for 5 wins.
if we somehow win 6, thats COTY territory.

State is down bad. They are alone in the bottom tier of the SEC. And are pretty much the only team you can consider an automatic win. They need to pick an identity and just stick with it forever. They need to do something to engage the fans or risk being the first program cut from a power conference. Leach had some decent success there, so did Mullen, and when they were an old school ground and pound team they could at least put up a fight. Whatever they are doing now aint working.

A lot of truth with these words.

Mississippi State also has at least been to a final four.
MS state has more appearances in Omaha than TN does.
And since you have hanged your hat on women’s basketball, MSU has been both regular season and tournament champions ahead of your last ones.
Soooo your opinion is shite.

They could’ve won the Ole Miss game with Leach possibly, IMO. That game ended 17-7 and was 10-7 going to the 4th quarter, I believe State had a second half lead at one point.
I would probably say that’s another 7-5 or 8-4 team though, I don’t think the roster was as good as some State fans believe. Also, elephant in the room that I hate to bring up…. In the days before Leach died, State’s talented skill players were starting to hit the portal. Famously Dillon Johnson left, but I think Marks and Griffin were out on the Air Raid at that point too, and they were rumored to be leaving until Leach passed.

Losing Leach hurt State but it was always going to be a rebuild personnel wise. Add that and hiring Arnett is what really did State in. In 2025, if there is improvement, I will be happy.

If he loses to USM its over for him. He cant afford another 2 win season and signs point to it not being much better than 4
