Teams like Ole Miss and Missouri get in now and get a shot to knock a Michigan, Bama, or Ohio State out of the way. Can’t get here soon enough.

Usually 4 is plenty. But now with more parity due to NIL, 8 is fine. >8 is too much and not necessary but it will bring in more money I suppose. Either way, I can't wait to see how it plays out. Should be fun come December.
They kind of ruined it for me with transfer portal and NIL. Just as well completely destroy it with a 12 team playoff.

Nobody is making you watch these games...

Go Christmas shopping instead.

And if it was missing the Avacados from New Mexico Cure Bowl you were afraid of missing due to the playoffs... I'm sure they will reschedule it so it won't conflict.

Last year Okie State would have gotten a bye and Liberty would have gotten in. So if they're going to let garbage like that have a spot, then I'd say just go 16. That's pushing it, but at least all the legit teams would have a chance.

I thought 8 was the sweet spot, and they just jumped right over it.
Same, but I'm fine with 12 as long as they don't expand and water it down even more. Move to 16 or more and we'll have teams that have no business being in the playoffs due to their season performance, and making the playoffs will be no great accomplishment for the ones who should be in. I guess some teams will still have a shot at a bye or home field, but that isn't quite the same as being in an exclusive field of 8-12.

which is why 8 is the perfect number and 12 should be the max. I mean seriously...how many seasons are there more than 12 teams that could make some playoff noise? I think most seasons even 12 will be a stretch for at least a couple of the teams who get in.

Better than the "brilliance" we had before: 4 slots amongst 5 conferences (with the possibility of 1 conference claiming multiple slots).

Other than money, why play all these regular season games? I mean, you basically know who the 14 or 15 best teams are after 4-6 games. Why not just pick 12 and go with the crappy playoff after 6 games? They’ve already made the regular season a formality, why drag it out and beat everyone to death? You’re eventually gonna see the best teams resting their players at the end of the year like in the NFL. Gonna be great going to Sanford Stadium in November to see Slappy Slapdick play QB against Auburn.

Do you make this same argument with every single other organized sport including every other division of college and professional football? Or just D1?

"making noise" isn't the point. The point should be crowning the best team in america. There aren't anywhere even remotely CLOSE to 12 teams that after 13 games played can seriously pretend they have a right to call themselves the best in the country.

In the 10 years we had a 4-team playoff, there were rarely and I mean RARELY instances where anyone ranked past 6th could have a valid claim. Doubling that all the way to 12 is just ludicrous. Not to meniton the fact you'll inevitably have rematches (prior to championship games I mean) and autobids beinig dumb.

Definitely right on that. You will almost surely have some teams wiht 3 losses make the playoffs. If you've lost 23% of the games played prior to the palyoffs you don't deserve to be in period.

The reason I’ve always loved college football is the drama of the regular season, conference championship games. Now that has all been lost in the name of making it more like “every other sport” blah blah blah. If you want NFL, go watch it. We’ve fricked up 90 percent of the CFB season so that 9-3 Kansas State has a chance at a title? Gimme a break.

why does it matter how many conferences there were? Here are the instances the first 9 years of the playoffs (prior to last year's complete about face) of what conferences were left out:

ere are those cases:

2014: Big 12 where Baylor and TCU were co-champions with 11-1 records. No title game.
2015: Pac 12 champ Stanford. 11-2 with losses to Northwestern and Oregon
2016: Big 12 champ Oklahoma. 10-2 with losses to Houston and Ohio State. No title game.
2017: Big 10 champ Ohio State. 11-2 with losses to Oklahoma and Iowa. Also the Pac12 champ USC. 11-2 with losses to Washington State and Notre Dame
2018: Big 10 champ Ohio State. 12-1 with loss to Purdue. Also Pac12 champ Washington. 10-3 with losses to Auburn, Oregon, and Cal.
2019: Pac 12 champ Oregon. 11-2 with losses to Auburn and Ariz. State.
2020: Big 12 champ Oklahoma. 8-2 with losses to Kansas state and Iowa state. Also the Pac 12 champ Oregon finishing at 25th in the rankings. 4-2 with losses to Oregon state and cal.
2021: Big 12 Champ Baylor. 11-2 with losses to Ok.St. and TCU. Also Pac 12 Champ Utah, 10-3 with losses to BYU, San Diego st, and Oregon State. Also ACC champ Pittsburgh, 11-2 with losses to Western Michigan and Miami.
2022: ACC Champ Clemson. 10-2 with losses to ND and South Carolina. Pac 12 Champ Utah, 10-3 with losses to Florida, UCLA, and Oregon. Big 12 Champ Kansas State, 10-3 with losses to Tulane, TCU, and Texas.

There was only one year (2014) where you could argue things were kinda shitty with only having 4 spots but all the rest of the years it worked out fine.

I think ti's equally as silly to go so gung ho the other way and let in 3 times as many teams.

12 is too many. You’re going to see high seeded teams that are match up nightmares knock out the good competition. Gonna end up with some weird scenarios like uga will get four seed Ohio st in the final four and then a mich get some upset minded g5 or big 12 school who put everything into a first round upset with no gas in the tank. Lotta dumb stuff will happen. 8 is the most I’d like to see
