Would that format not benefit conferences who had a day like the SEC did where it is just a nasty knife fight with everyone bleeding?

Are we saying no one in the SEC deserves a shot at playoffs besides Kentucky if we are going to be consistent.

I still believe may SEC teams, not mine, but UGA and Bama and Tennessee would crush most other conference contenders

Yes, it will “benefit” 8-4 teams in the same way that it “benefits” welfare recipients to pay for all their shite. It ruins everything for everyone else and actually doesn’t ultimately help the teams themselves because they’re fine with being mediocre now because there’s no point in pursuing excellence, but you know, progress.

Giving fake playoff spots to mediocre teams isn't actually helping them.

No 8-4, #20+ seeded team is going to win the playoff, ever. I don't think playoff spots should exist as feel good about your season participation trophies.

I think they should be exclusive and something difficult to achieve, keeps the regular season high stakes.

it’s like bubble teams that get blown out in the first round of the ncaab tourney

They initially get a dopamine hit for getting in but then grumble when they lost by 30-40 points against an opponent playing their bench by the 15th min of the 2nd half

In the NFL 12/32 teams or 37.5% teams make it. In the P4 64 teams will get 24 or 37.5% of their teams in the playoffs. Really isn’t that far out there.

At least 24 teams will be trying to win a postseason game, which isn’t happening now.

Do we not think there were some SEC teams that could have gone far in any playoff scenario but were left out?

I think 24 is ridiculous, but I do think there might be some sleeper teams that surprise some people.

maybe in the 4 team era (UGA in 2023 for instance, maybe UF in 2019…2020 defense was too horrendous to make the argument).

In the 12 team era, no

Vandy, Arky, Aggies... just to name a few, still don't have a chance if it was in place this year.

I don't like the 24 because of the bye. 16 would have been my preference. It is what it is. I think as they expand this thing, the other bowls are going to eventually go away.

this is simply not true

In the NFL, SEVEN wild card teams have actually won the Super Bowl — Tampa Bat did it just 6 years ago…

College football is not the NFL. College football becoming more NFL like is what will kill it.

The 24 playoff team should benefit us. Better than 2 loss teams getting left out last year. Assuming the committee can recognize that our schedule is much tougher.

... we're going to need the 24 team playoff to have a chance of getting in.

People keep saying it will benefit "8-4" teams, but we don't know that for sure...the same way 9-3 is a sticking point with the 12 team playoff

We're not going to know until we see it playout
