So, because people who don't know the rules see that Murray got hit hard, it should be flagged. Gotcha.

Are you that dense or just trying to breed an argument?

Where in God's name did I say "it should have been flagged?"

Am I speaking Chinese?

Who delivered the bigger hit for Bama in 2012?

So again I don't have a problem with the hit itself. I have a problem with the way the rules call something's and not others.

Agreed.

I thought you've been portraying the perception of "the average fan"...? I'm not responding to your, Party At LSU's, opinion...but to the "average fan" you're representing.

I do feel like it was a legal hit by the rulebook but...... i do think it should have been called unnecessary roughness
If he should have been called for unnecessary roughness, it could NOT be a legal hit. Duh!

I ain't representing shite. It's simply my opinion that you wouldn't see so much public discussion on this particular play had both or neither hit been flagged. That's it, that's all.

This is stupid anyway. Last post about it.

And people wonder why the country is going soft.

Have you watched any football games in the last 3 years? I don't necessarily agree with the "softness" of football these days, but blind side hits on a qb are not allowed anymore. Doesn't matter that it was after a pick. The head of the SEC officials clearly stated that officials are trained to watch the qb after turnovers and make sure that defensive players don't take a cheap shot. The head of SEC officials clearly stated that a flag should have been thrown.

Like I said, Murray was not a defenseless player as defined by the NCAA rulebook

That may be, but if a georgia lineman did this to your precious QB your entire fanbase would be crying to the NCAA and something tells me that if it was done to ya'll, that player would be disciplined with at least a penalty. The ref was standing right behind the damn play.

I agree. I also think being the underdog gives people a bias to overlook bad hits as much as being the favorite makes people focus on unfair advantages.

Look at the eye-gouging that Brandon Spikes did a few years ago and the uproar that followed. Hardly anyone has talked about the one in this game that the Georgia guy did. I can never remember unfair hits that losing teams make, but I sure as hell remember them when a team that won does them. It's just human nature.

No, I wouldn't be. Can't speak for anyone else though, or see the future of hypothetical plays, as you apparently can...

Just like the Alabama fanbase explained the "rules" after the Peterson int in 2009.

Earlier this month, SEC coordinator of officials Steve Shaw told Al.com that Dial should have been penalized for his hit on Murray and that the officials "missed the call."

Here's a little of what Shaw told Al.com about reviewing the hit:

"By rule, you can't hit a defenseless player above the shoulders. What the determination needs to be is was this a defenseless player and was contact initiated above the shoulders? When we go through video review of it, that's what we'll have to determine. And then you as you break it down, did he lead with the head or lead with the shoulder? From game action, it was a personal foul regardless of how we break it down frame by frame."

So in closing, if you play for Ole Miss or South Carolina, you will be suspended for vicious hits. If you play for Alabama, they will let Nick Saban handle it internally.

Nor did he lead with helmet nor did he hit Murray's helmet. Shoulder hit first, Murray's head went toward the point of impact indicating the hit was below the neck.

False. The dude's helmet hit murray in the chin. Got them blinders on man. That being said, no suspension, just a flag, Murray was a defender at that point, gotta have your head on a swivel or gtf out the way.

if you play for nick saban with the BCS NCG vs. ND on the line, you're good.

not shocked at all with this ruling, whether or not I actually think he deserved it or not (I don't).

I agree with the sentiment that hardly anyone would be talking about this had everything/nothing been flagged
