I am not saying to like it. I am saying that is what their value is.
Being the head coach of Alabama does pay more than most others, and there is good reason for it. Alabama pays more because it pays for higher quality.
Yet, if Alabama hires another HC next year, and we go and get a hot G5 coach, he's going to make roughly 5-6 million per year, not the 10+ that Saban gets. If we grab a hot OC/DC from another team, 4-5 million per year.
The agents know these numbers. It's their job to push it to the limits.

Yep. It's like Biden is running the NCAA. Should have put a cap on it at least.

The market value is not a static number. There are many variables that will make it flucuate year to year and prospect to prospect.
There is a range, sure. But it's not you and I who are making these evaluations. It's people who make those deals who know when something is or isn't in market range.
And btw, this only exists for boosters. Legit NIL deals are going to apply this by default.

Lol, putting a cap on it is exactly what Biden would do.

It is within range if someone is willing to pay it.
I assume you're still holding out hope that pay for play is not going happen and NIL is going to be used for it's intended purpose.

No, people are willing to buy a recruit. Not because they are giving them a legitimate NIL deal.
As for as my hope, I will quit watching completely if the NCAA doesn't prevent it. I don't give a shite if Alabama wins every national championship until the end of time as a result, it's not college football anymore.
Next they'll reclassify it as sports entertainment.

Won't say, real principled stance.

How much did Bryce make this year?
It’s different being offered $5M to transfer and play to a school rather than being offered however much Bryce made, from the school you have been with since the beginning and have already proven your self.

Ruining college sports.
Now it's like the NFL without the long term contract

Pat Narduzzi makes 5 million, Drake Maye brings more value to a team than Pat Narduzzi

Ten million dollar coaches. Hundred million dollar stadiums. Billion dollar conference television deals.
And we've still got people worried about what a booster might pay a player. A whole lot of folks around here seem to think themselves more than qualified to determine how somebody else can spend their own damn money.

Bunch of ignorant responses in this thread. The schools aren’t paying these kids and are not supposed to be involved.
This is not a ‘salary’ or a pay, it’s basically endorsements. How are you going to cap an endorsement? Many many pro athletes get paid just to wear and be a representative of a brand. That’s what NIL is.
The biggest issue, and people won’t like this, is we have too many damn teams in D1 sports. The nfl is 32 teams, D1 football is what 130? If we had 50 D1 teams things would be a lot more similar.
If you can’t compete financially, frankly you shouldn’t be jn D1.

If they are going to get paid that much, do away with the scholarship part. They can afford to pay their own damn way!

Anyone with any sense knew that NIL was going to be a Pandora’s box. It was never about not paying players or letting them cash in on their notoriety, it was about trying not to kill the golden goose & preventing college football from becoming a free-for-all with perpetual free agency.
The bleeding hearts that couldn’t see past the surface of their virtue signaling made this bed.

People who say they're against NIL and the transfer portal are trying to say they're against capitalism and at-will work arrangements but are having trouble finding the right words. Since these are the market conditions for most people who work for a living, it's hard to understand why this should be some special case.

There's always been a market for players, and all of our programs have been very active participants in that market for many, many years. The only difference now is that the prices are starting to be posted.

What is that difference, exactly? They're both being paid for their performance.
It's like Company A giving an employee a big raise for past performance, while Company B hires a similar employee from Company C for a big raise. This is how free markets work.
Demanding an overarching regulator come in and stop this market competition is essentially demanding socialism.

Amen. The boosters didn't get rich paying for things without a solid ROI. I assume it'll be the wild west for a few more years, but eventually we'll have a better idea of true market value for these kids. Then the 5* qb will get millions and the 3* wr will get a few local contracts. But it'll open the door for the 3* db that turns out to be a generational talent to capitalize on their proven talent.
