Give me the old pre-BCS bowl game system over the trash college football has become today. College football used to be special. The SEC, the SWC, The Big 10, the Pac 10, the Big East, the Big 8...etc. It used to all mean something. Now it is a one year contract, endless transfers, which billionaire will put the most into which school. It's not substantiable. A lot of people will start tuning it out unless the NCAA does something to fix the mess their greed started.

I know we’re doing a thought experiment, but JV league would not be insulated. Impact players would get poached by the paid league & we’d all be just as grumpy as we are now lol

“Kids are not being well-served by bouncing from school to school 2, 3, 4, or more times in their careers.”

The absolute irony of these words coming out of the guy’s mouth who has actually led the charge in recruiting guys who don’t finish with a degree from his institution is priceless.

Additionally how much good are these General Studies and kinesiology degrees doing these kids of old?

I’d say a 23 year old RB who misses the NFL with $500k in his bank and contacts at 3 schools and a GS degree is better off than the identical true son with a near empty back account.

I haven't really voiced it yet because i know it would come across as taking our ball and going home because auburn has been so bad but i truly would rather auburn drop down to fcs and operate under that setup than what is going on in fbs right now

The student has the opportunity to select any course of study, go to class and apply himself in school just as much as any other student. With the magnitude of money available, we've decreased the incentives to do so. These kids think money is going to rain from the sky for forever. For the overwhelming majority it ends after college, but they will have spent it as if it would continue.

The real problem is fans value winning above all else combined.

Even by the former rules, fans would still rather have a 5 star from the Compton ghetto who can barely spell his name and doesn’t really belong in college than a 3 star in-state kid who’s a valedictorian and went to every camp and home game growing up.

The portal is fine for players who were underrated out of high school and want to play gor bigger programs. It is also fine for players who were overrated and want to move down in competition to get playing time. It is bullshite for big name guys or P5 starters who make lateral moves.

I used to pull for the "LSU Tigers." Now I'll be a bit more tepidly watching "Some guys who happen to play in LSU's stadium for a year."

Well I’d rather not be learning some of our players names by week 12. It’s too much to keep up with lol.

All this crying about the good old days of the pure student athlete strikes me as pretty hypocritical. Everyone here loved to puff out their chest over their great multi-million dollar coach, 100K seat stadium, and newest batch of five star studs that may or may not know how to read or write.

I don’t necessarily care about the money they’re making, but I do care that every season is a full out free agency with the portal.

Athletes should sign 2 or 3 year contracts with a school and the NCAA should only allow transfers within a very limited scope of reasons.

College athletes want to act like professional athletes? Make them sign contracts like professional athletes.

That fixes 90% of my grievances at least. Until they figure out a way to exploit that, too.

I don't think the NCAA is going to do anything that might get them back into a court. What was the settlement for former players, like $2.6B?

I'll worry about the players signing and abiding by contracts when the coaches do the same.

You can both not like it, but also perform the same actions that everyone else has been doing for years. It’s either that or just give up altogether.
