Can you think of a coach in the last 40+ years who has sustained without NFL talent? That's part of the game. Jimmy's and Joe's will defeat X's and O's more often than not.

Every national champion this century, save 2000 Oklahoma, had at least one Top 10 recruiting class on its roster.

yeah, ending your career on the downturn of going undefeated in and winning the SEC, stopping a UGa three peat and breaking their 30sh game win streak, then losing in OT in the playoff semis was a harbinger of just how far he had already fallen.

ETA: The guy revolutionized coaching. All the good coaches today use their own form of his system for preparation, planning and implementation. Kirby and Sark are literal Saban disciples. They have both built programs in the same image. You think either of them share the view that Saban was just getting the best players? Of course you need good players, but it is stupid to say that just stockpiling talent is all there is to it.

Leadership/motivation play a much bigger role than those perpetuating these narratives care to admit. Motivating high achievers takes work

Worst. Cope. Post. Ever.

Whatever you want to chalk it up to, he's the most successful college football coach in history. No fanbase anywhere would trade that for a "pure chess moves" coach who gets his arse handed to him by a stockpile of NFL talent.

Fun fact and not being a snowflake. But John C. McGinley’s son actually is special needs. Read an article on it and it was fascinating. Also, people are forgetting Saban’s first sec runner up and first championship team rosters. Not all 5 stars… pretty sure Marcel Darius was a 3 star recruit but he fricked Colt McCoy’s arse up for life lol

Hey guys, Opry has figured out the secret to football success. Have a better team.

A coach will be more successful the more talent he has on his team. If he has no talent he will struggle. If he has NFL level talent he will be successful.

Finally Opry figured it out.

I am beginning to worry about Nick Saban’s legacy. To have as much venom as you do I feel he had to have at least fingered your butthole. There really isn’t any other choice but that he molested you.

You aren’t actually an LSU fan are you? That would be the most logical explanation. He molested the shite out of them.

Yup name me a coach that won a championship without good players.

Spurrier last guy to win a title with a squad less than 50% blue chip(it should be noted recruiting services weren’t as accurate due to less scouting and camps). Other than that….
98 Beamer(wasn’t completely overwhelmed like tcu but not exactly close). 2010 chip Kelly(probably the closest anyone has come since spurrier), 2015 Dabo(was still in it late until a brilliant onside kick call against the greatest coaching staff ever assembled) all runner up squads with all less than 50 percent blue chip ratio.

Whoa who would’ve thought teams full of 5 stars may translate to success

What is he supposed to do, recruit 3 stars (like we do at LSU then we flip out over them) and try to win the championship just to prove he’s a good coach?

I remember him beating the hell out of a Tennessee team that was much better than his in his first year in 2007!

The guy paid untold millions to recruits. Had other schools done so, they’d be shut down like SMU. He fricked over a generation of players promising a scholarship which he then reneged on, or got them to sign just so they couldn’t play against him.

He’s an unethical POS.

I remember all of those great coaches who won championships with average players.

You start the list and I’ll finish it.

No. Nick retired because of the fundamental shift. He said as much.
