Really?

Some LSU fan in this thread is arguing about the Bye that Bama got during conference championship game week.

You are too dismissive of what people complain about.

It would become a very big deal. People will argue the top teams had an extra week to get healed up and prepare. It would go on and on. People just like to complain about everything. If you gave some people a million dollars they would complain it puts them in a higher tax bracket.

Of course the arguing would continue. I personally beleive it would be less that it is now. The arguing was less when the first BCS came out, then less with the playoffs, and I think 6 teams would decrease it again

signed 2011, 2012, and 2017 when Saban's team lost in November and still found their way to the national title game. In 2011, Alabama dropped from 2 to 3 with a November loss. From 1 to 4 in 2012 with a November loss. And from 1 to 5 with a November loss in 2017. I'm not sure what this "greater impact" he's referring to is. That may be true for other teams but has never been true for a Nick Saban coached Alabama team.

Bama was 12-0 and #1 heading into the SECCG in 2008. Hard fought loss to UF knocked them out of the natty game in December. Had Bama had that same loss in week 2, good chance they make the natty game. So it has happened to Bama and Saban before. That said, I don't have an issue with the playoff system like Saban does. I think the 4 team playoff is pretty awesome and has doubled the slots for teams to get a shot at it. Heck, 2008 Bama may have made the playoffs had it existed back then. 2013 Bama likely does as well.

I'll concede that we were able to get healthy, but Ohio State had the same "bye" week the year before and they still got blown out in their playoff game. So it's not like it is a given that playing one less game is always an advantage.

I think Bama had 35 days off and Clemson only got a measly 28

I like that. I used to say if you mailed some folks a million dollar check they would gripe about having to walk to the mailbox to get it but I like yours to

There are some good ones out there....and, unfortunately, they are pretty close to being true.

I *think* some media and CFP committee did a mock selection around 2014 with the 2008 teams and I recall that remarkably, Alabama might've gotten left out in favor of USC.

Bama was 4 in the bcs in 2008

Yall would have gotten in even counting the late loss for a playoff

However, yall did not deserve in over Oklahoma in a two team system even if your loss was the first game of the year

The AP had Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and Alabama.
The Coaches had Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, and Alabama.
The Harris Interactive had Florida, Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama.
The BCS had Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, and Alabama.

I'm not saying we would've gotten in over OU. If we had lost to UF early and they lost to Ole Miss late, that might've had some effect on the human polls that could've put Alabama in over Florida but that's probably a reach and that's a rabbit hole that will just waste everyone's time.

While the BCS had us 4th and USC 5th after the SEC Championship game, I imagine that USC having the PAC-10 crown and Alabama having the most recent loss would've changed the dynamic if both were vying for that 4th playoff spot.
