Nick Saban Not Happy With SEC's Proposed Alabama Schedule
quote:

SEC officials are currently looking to decide whether to move to a nine-game conference football schedule or stay at eight games once Texas and Oklahoma join the league, and in theory Nick Saban is in favor of making it nine.

That new schedule would be different from the divisional slate, where teams play six or seven set teams each season. Instead, each school would be assigned three permanent annual rivals.

But the Alabama head football coach isn't happy with the three teams he's hearing he'll have to play every year: all rumors indicate those rivals will be Tennessee, Auburn, and LSU.

Nick Saban speaks to his support of future SEC scheduling model
quote:

Saban added that the new scheduling format is another positive now that Oklahoma and Texas are involved.

“The way we’re going to do our 7-team rotation, 1-team fixed. You’re going to play everybody every 4 years,” Saban said. “So almost every guy at your school is going to get to play every team in the conference, which I think is great as well.”

Little Nicky is scared of playing LSU & Tennessee every year.

Alabama fans have been in denial about this for almost 2 years. They swore up and down it was other schools who were scared, not them.

Meanwhile LSU has been for a 9 game since the possibility arose.

I wish we just played an all-SEC schedule. It's horrible that so many years pass before two SEC teams play each other.

Nick Saban is a lot of things. Scared of other SEC teams is not one of them.

It’s an article from March, the same one posted on here, 7 months ago. I’m sure, Saban is upset that he can’t get the automatic W from playing A&M , every year.

Everyone of us do, so that, of course, means it won't happen

There are 4 Eastern Division schools who wouldn't go for that plan.

This article is from march and there were multiple threads about it then. Sankey got around this by agreeing to 8 in '24, and then revisiting the issue next year when OU and Texas have a vote, both of them are for a 9 game conference schedule.

This is what I was thinking as well. Not even 7 days have lapsed since the beating at the gaydome. I just don't get it.

UGA - Ga. Tech
Florida - FSU***
SC - Clemson
Kentucky - Louisville

In-state ACC rivals played annually.

***Sometimes Florida has Miami on their schedule as well...but def. FSU.

We already play those teams every year, and have winning records against all of them. You didn't think this through, did you?

For years he did advocate for a 9 game sec schedule. Why he changed I don’t know BUT I can assume that adding Texas and Oklahoma changed that. No one wants a schedule with Auburn, LSU, Texas or Oklahoma, Gerogia, Tennessee every other year. Name of the game is to get to the playoffs. I don’t know that it would matter as much now that we are going to a 12 game playoff.

I have said and believed it for years. Nick supported a nine game conference schedule when everyone else was against it because there was no way it could become reality. Once the landscape changed and others wanted a nine game conference schedule, Nick suddenly didn’t want it. He never truly wanted it.

You’re right he is calculating and always doing what is 100% best for him and the school he is coaching. For the one coach who for over a decade could only have a successful season by winning a national championship, it never made sense to add another conference game which could be Georgia or Florida. But when every other coach was against going to nine games, it had ZERO chance of becoming reality. Therefore, Nick could be for it with no chance of having to deal with it. Now that it might happen, he is no longer for it. Nick is many things as you said, and dumb isn’t one of them.

I upvoted because I like Nick’s take. Tired of the conference beating each other and watching Washington or TCU waltz into the playoff.
