The SEC has always implemented the NCAA’s amateurism rules. The fact that the NCAA has been prevented from enforcing that standard, as a monopoly, does not mean that the SEC (not a monopoly) can be barred from enforcing that standard on antitrust grounds. Some LSU fan sitting in the bench in Baton Rouge doesn’t get to rewrite the SEC rule book at his whim.

You might be barred from spanking someone else’s child but that doesn’t mean they are barred, too.

Except the SEC actually hasn't. They allowed Bediako to play with nothing more than an affidavit submitted.

Selective enforcement always gets you in trouble, it happened with the NCAA, it's happening now with the SEC.

They will lose the case. The appeals are all being lost.

That isn't what happened. Like this time, the NCAA's rules were challenged in court leading to an injunction.

This happened during the season so Alabama played him. A decision was eventually rendered and the NCAA rule was enforceable again. And then Bediako stopped playing.

This time, in the interim the SEC passed an internal time, voted for by all members (including LSU)

Bediako stopped playing because the judge lifted the injunction, not because of anything the conference or Alabama did. If the judge doesn't lift the injunction, then Bediako likely finishes the season.

The SEC could have created a rule at any time with Bediako, or even after the season, they chose not to. So it isn't actually true to say the SEC has always gone by the NCAA guidelines for amateurism.

The SEC has a bylaw that states that all athletes must abide by NCAA guidelines, they've had it a for a long time. They just pick and choose when they enforce it.

That is exactly what I just said.

No, they did. About a month ago. There was no other incident in the interim.

And during these two injunctions some of those guidelines were being challenged and legally unenforceable.

Which is why the SEC finally stepped in and made their own rule.

I'm not exactly sure what you're attempting to argue here, my statement was simply that the SEC hasn't always implemented the NCAA's amateurism rules, as was erroneously stated.

Because there were two periods when this specific NCAA rule was legally not enforceable by the NCAA. In other words, the rule was void.

After the second time they said "enough of this" and made their own rule.

Very strange that they would send out a memo with two LSU players, then say that the list is not inclusive of all draft eligible players who returned to college.

Why didn't the SEC come up with this rule when the Colorado judge gave the TRO?

Why did Sankey say he would comply with court decisions but then after the court decision the SEC threatened to vote LSU out of the conference

This is what y'all are failing to acknowledge or understand.... Kiffin stated that he didn't think that Pro Players should be allowed to come back (this is why LSU voted with the SEC regarding not allowing Pro Players back)... BUT if they were allowed to come back and there were some players that could help LSU then he would try to sign them! He SPECIFICALLY said he would abide by the SEC was there was clarity on the rules, this was after Sankey said he would comply with the court decisions.

What I find ironic is that the way the SEC defined a Pro player is included the two players LSU was wanting but all the other players on the other teams didn't meet the same definition. They were all in mini caps... they all got paid...but because there was a "contract" signed those two were considered Pro Players. Splitting hairs.... but everyone wants to act like big bad Kiffin and LSU were trying to circumvent the rules. The rule was put in place after the players filed their initial TRO... I don't give a crap if y'all hate LSU or Kiffin, but to be dishonest about this entire situation puts y'all in the same category as political hacks that only tell one side of the story that supports their narrative.

You're asking why the SEC didn't respond until it directly involved activity among SEC teams?

You could say a lack of foresight, but it seems pretty obvious to me.

The injunction (not decision) has nothing to do with the second half of your sentence. Complying with it meant, simply, they couldn't prevent it, but did not preclude punishing teams that violate their own private conference rules.

The BR judge gave the greenlight on playing football at LSU. Seems fair enough given their college status.

Judge ruled that the SEC couldn't punish schools for rostering players.

"The SEC and commissioner Greg Sankey are not allowed, at least for now, to punish schools if they play a college football player who returns to campus after signing a contract with an NFL team this summer, according to an order signed Friday by a Louisiana state judge."

This straight from the ESPN article. Another judge in Dallas had a similar ruling.

Yet Sankey and the SEC was threatening to kick LSU out for something they hadn't done... They hadn't rostered or played former "Pro Players"

And you can't say they were defying SEC rules or rulings because the SEC came out with the rule after the Players filed for the TRO.

Once again you are failing to acknowledge that once the SEC said teams couldn't roster or play former "Pro Players" LSU didn't do either and only stated they would comply once they had clarity.

This was about Sankey not liking Kiffin and maybe a little upset with LSU.. and getting his @$$ handed to him in court during the TRO.
