with the resources state has compared to the rest of the SEC, it is. a coach who can take them to bowl games every year is generally doing a good job. there isn't a coach out there who would realistically go to state and be able to turn them into anything much better.

You guys have an entire state to yourself. We don't have that luxury.

For MSU, Mullen at least has them going to bowls every year. That's a solid foundation to build on. He's done well sustaining that. Realistically what is MSU's goal - they are not going to compete for SEC west titles every year with the other programs in the league and having to share state resources with another SEC team and knowing your not going into neighboring states and getting top players.

Agreed. They should be looking for 6-8 win seasons with an occassional dip and maybe a hallalujuh 10-win season if the division is down and all the balls bounce their way. Hell, Ole Miss sucks, and their resources far outstrip State's.

Based on the hype from the media for State, you'd think winning the west is an expectation for them this year....but the reality among the State fans might be different.

The media has done anything but hype state.

He gets a lot of shite on here, but I have to honestly ask why Arkansas fans like him. He had some success at Wisky, but that doesn't mean you made a good hire. Dude is terrible.

It has been one full season and a game. The situation as far as depth and talent he stepped into was horrible. He wasn't going to win big unless he pulled miracle out his butt. I am not even saying that he will undoubtedly have success here. He will be given proper time to though.

Based on? A bowl game wasn't happening last season regardless of coach. Aside from the secondary, this year's team looks better than last year's.

Freeze: if he loses two more in a row to State he is gone, short of that he is safe

Mullen: Lose two in a row to Ole Miss and the heat is on

Bert: AD is already making a short list and talking to agents if he is smart, but judging by Bert's contract he is anything other than smart so Bert gets two more.

The depth chart that was released for the Auburn game had 28 players that were either sophomores or younger on the 2-deep. Bielema isn't the only coach that would have struggled with what he was left with. Hell all but one of the players we had drafted last year were our center, kicker and fullback.

Umm... its MSU- They could have Saban and Meyer on staff and they aren't doing better than a BCS bowl once every 5 years or so without cheating really, really obviously.

It might be the hardest program to win consistently at in the SEC-- even Vandy has a better draw (academics card), only UK is as hard and they could conceivably dump some of the basketball money into the program (they wont, but you know they could)-- literally the only thing MSU has going for it as a program in terms of recruiting is being in Mississippi and they're the second team in a great talent but low population state which sends its best players to Alabama and LSU and has for generations.
