Newton is a lot of things, but "classless" and "thug" aren't two of them

Sure, the presser last night wasn't one of his finer moments. And perhaps it had elements of "classlessness" but a classless moment doesn't brand one "classless."If that was the case then just check the "member list" on this forum.

He may act like a clod at various times. I don't care for the planned dances after a TD. For that matter, I didn't care for Brian Bosworth's and Mark Gastineau's antics in the 1980's. Showing your behind in the end zone doesn't make a guy a "thug."

My daughter graduated Auburn last Spring.(No, I am not a closet Auburn fan nor or they my second favorite team.)Newton was scheduled to graduate the same day and time. At first the word was he was going to the ceremony. The closer to the weekend he decided not to because he didn't want to draw attention and distract from the other students. Not too many 'look at me' jerks would do that.

Guy has done a lot of charity work and gives a lot of money, too. Now, would it be in his best interest to mature some ?Sure it would. Name another 26 year old that couldn't mature some more.

I like Cam, but not everything about him.Do you like everything about players you like? Remember it was the 2010 LSU game where he really became a household name so again I have no hidden Auburn agenda.

He's opened himself up to some questions and ribbing. But being branded classless and thuggish aren't accurate or correct.

Agree - the thug label is for guys who are violent on and/or off the field. Cam isn't any of those things. He isn't a thug in any sense of the word.

Do you honestly think Newton is a classless person?

Guy is polite and respectful about 99% of the time, but because he doesn't take losing well, he's classless?

I agree it wasn't a classy display, but that's different from labeling him overall.

As for the thug thing, I hate "thug=racism" but labeling Cam a thug makes zero sense. He's much closer to metrosexual than thug.

Agreed, that label doesn't make any sense. At all. Outside of it being used as a substitute for.....well.......yea

He's a spoiled 26 year old child that hasn't grasped the concept that his playing football for a LIVING is a privilege and it comes with both ups AND downs. Maybe he should talk to Thomas Davis in the locker room or Anquan Boldin who was there last night as the Man of the Year recipient or friggin Peyton Manning who will likely go down as one of the top 5 if not the greatest and most liked QBs of all time.

Still, that doesn't make him classless and it definitely doesn't make him a thug. It makes him just another immature, ignorant, arrogant 20-something. And maybe that's what is so disappointing.

You are responding to someone who is so eaten up with hate for anything Auburn, they are incapable of reasonable thought on the subject. So in short, dont expect a legitimate response

I don't agree that it is particularly despicable or anything, but overall you're probably right.

And overall, Cam probably needs an experience like this. I'm obviously a supporter, but the whole "you are God's chosen QB" thing, even it's in the context of "use it to help people/glorify God," needed to be taken down a notch.

Claiming this is as absurd as claiming he's a jerk 99% of the time.

99% of his time he is unknown.

Cam is just a bad loser. He needs to work on that. He does more things to help people in a week than many will do in their entire life.

He represents everything that is wrong with the NFL and society as a whole. He is a thug POS and apologists like you are why he continues to act this way.

Good post.

Cam is still good for the NFL. He's fun and does a ton of good work in his community. He's also an incredible player.

He got his butt whooped last night and people are going to enjoy taking down the overconfident guy. But so many assholes are using this as an opportunity to claim that he's a thug or classless or worthless, and that's just wrong.
