But the different views are interesting to read.
Any interesting reading/discussion during the off-season is welcomed. We've got a LONG time till kickoff.

Well with 4 new schools last 2 decades and a few departures beforehand, I'm not sure 'the old thought' is still truly valid. But I don't know and surely keep myself open.

I can understand why you wouldn't enjoy watching Auburn football.

At this point there is a big 1(hate to say it) and the rest of us are chasing Bama. . This is from a historical and current basis.

I certainly would take three years just like the last three, one suck year, one average year and one Nattie. I could take that until the end of time.

Tennessee is in such bad shape, their NC in '98 seems like such a distant memory. People were still using dial up internet to look at stills of Jenna Jameson. Might as well be from 1964.

It's real simple if you want to parse it out. Use something important. IMO here is your criteria to do so.

Meh.

In the last 50 years the only teams to win the SEC are Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.

[don't give me that '76 KY crap, they lost to UGA 7-31, and lost to State who had to forfeit the win]

In 50 years, 6 teams have won the SEC.

In order to even consider another team for the Big Dix, they would at least have to win the conference first.

It is so subjective. You can look at a historical football Big 6. You can look at a current football Big 6. You can combine the 2. Then you can do the same for the Big 3 or for all sports. Each time you do it you come up with a different answer. It's hard to have A&M qualify for any of it because we are so new and we haven't won an SEC football title (only had 1 shot though) and haven't even gotten our first SEC check (that comes July 1).

the Big 6 is in reference to the 6 SEC schools that have won SEC football titles in the last 50 or so years. this is not subjective....this is the meaning. if you come up with different answers than you're doing it wrong.

There is no "Big 6"...

there is only the Big 3 as of now...

Alabama, Florida and LSU

Auburn sort of got ripped off in 2004 because of the BCS (hey, join the club), but there's no guarantee that they would have beaten USC or Oklahoma, and they certainly haven't done much in basketball...

I would weight football as the highest, basketball second, baseball a distant third

Ole Miss won it in 63, that falls just within 50 seasons.

In 89, there was a 3 way tie between Bama, Auburn, and UT. How'd that happen?

You can add to the big 6, once another program outside of these teams win the SEC title.

The big 6 refers to FOOSBALL btw. The whole spiel about the "Big 3 sports" when referring to the big 6 is just wrong.

Google saves lifes

If we're going by the past 50 years, shouldn't it be the Big 8?

Alabama - 17 (1964, 65, 66*, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 79, 81*, 89*, 92, 99, 2009, 12)
Florida - 9 (1984**, 91, 93, 94, 95, 96, 2000, 06, 08)
Georgia - 8 (1966*, 68, 76*, 80, 81*, 82, 2002, 05)
LSU - 7 (1970, 86, 88*, 2001, 03, 07, 11)
Tennessee - 7 (1967, 69, 85, 89*, 90, 97, 98)
Auburn - 6 (1983, 87, 88*, 89*, 2004, 10)
Kentucky - 1 (1976*)
Ole Miss - 1 (1964)

Overall SEC Records

I posted this awhile ago just to get comparisons. I hope this clears up some chatter. While we did have an awful year, it really is annoying to have everyone act like were falling for good. I guess that's something well have to put up with until next season.

I also would never wish bad for any other SEC team. The big 6 has always been competitive and I believe matchups between any of these teams can always be close no matter what. Ex: LSU and AU this year. But for those say Tennessee shouldn't be in the big 6, they're #2.

The new reality of a 14 member SEC is a big 5:
Alabama
Florida
Georgia
LSU
aTm

These are the new SEC power brokers for the next decade. Tennessee squandered what they had. Auburn isn't going to be allowed to buy another championship and just doesn't fit in the new order.
