A good way of putting it, Saban could get any program to their ceiling, or perhaps even establish a new ceiling for them, but different programs have different ceilings.

He couldn't do it at Mich St or LSU so you answer that absurd question.

he could in their conference but over the long haul he would not be getting all the 4 and 5 stars to come on a regular basis.

I think the essence of the question is if Coach Saban went there now, after what he has done at Alabama. There is a strong possibility he could because recruits would go there to be coached by him. Coach Saban is a very good coach, but he needed Alabama to reach his potential. Now that he has, he could go anywhere and probably recreate it.

Doubtful

Top flight football schools are built over generations and multiple coaches so the equation might look like this.

Program = Good
Program + Coach = Great

No, they’re not.

Bowden single-handedly made previously shitty FSU into a power and Steve did the same thing at what had been a thoroughly and perpetually mediocre Florida. Saban himself took over an LSU team that had been lackluster forever and won a natty, then passed the reins to an idiot who’d been a “meh” coach at Oklahoma State and he won another just coasting on Saban’s fumes. So history actually shows that one coach can indeed completely change a school’s fortunes.

I think he would have better results than he did when he was there last time, but not the same results he has had at bama. saban and bama are a perfect storm. With the backing from the rec and his hard nose, results oriented coaching made the bama dynasty what it is today.

He played where he could cherry pick the schedule and got better media exposure. Not saying he was a bad coach but it took a second coach to win a Natty to get them over the hump from good to top tier.

Spurrier inherited the perfect storm. Pell built the program and Steve rode it the rest of the way to the top. CUM winning the Natty cemented them from average to top tier.

Just think of all the 1 hit wonders in college football who could not sustain the rocket ride of a single coach.

When Nick arrived, Bama had gone 15 years without a NC and had exactly ONE SEC title in that period.

Not exactly dynasty material there, Ace.

wut?

Wallace Wade = MNC winning coach
Frank Thomas = MNC winning coach
Bear Bryant = MNC winning coach
Gene Stallings = MNC winning coach
Nick Saban = MNC winning coach

Good lord man, if that is not a dynasty, I don't know what is.

Probably… but then you'd have to live in a city like Akron or Toledo.

Saban is a tremendous coach but he cant turn water into wine. The man needs grapes and Akron and Toledo are not the best vinyards.

If Bowden can make Akron relevant within the MAC then Saban could make them or, say, Arkansas State the Boise State of the G5.

The question I’ve got is could Saban take a Vanderbilt and do it, take a program that has clear hurdles and make them dominant. I don’t think so, but it would be interesting to see.

That was a program running on its distant past before Nick arrived.

Now, if you want to say that they're a present day dynasty under Nick, there's absolutely no argument.

If they would spend the money he could win a championship there. I don't know about the dynasty part.
