One particular flag was and is used to promote white supremacy, segregation and Jim Crow after the war. That's the flag folks have a problem with and it has less to do with the Civil War than how that particular flag and image was used by Klansmen and other racist fricksticks long after the Civil War was over.
You could fly a dozen (or more) types of confederate flags and no one would give a shite because those flags didn't come to symbolize the Klan, White Supremacy, Lynching, etc. the way the Confederate Naval Jack/Army of Northern Virginia etc. flag design did.

I got the date wrong, should have been 1894. You are correct that the previous flag was adopted during the Civil War era, “a flag that contained, “a white ground, a magnolia (tree) in the center, a blue field in the upper left hand corner, the flag surrounded with a red border, and a red fringe at the extremity.“ It was the flag from 1861-1865. Their was no flag before that. The Civil War period design was itself pretty innocuous. The magnolia is the state tree and flower and nothing is overtly racist. But the point remains that the current flag has been around for just over a century. It was a product of it’s time. And it is time to move on.

Yes, very much so
It wasn’t an official flag of the Confederacy at all. They had three (Stars and Bars, Stainless Banner, and The Bloodstained Banner), none of which were the Battle Flags of the Army of Northern Virginia or Tennessee. It was essentially a guidon. I mean the Georgia Flag is like an identical twin of the Stars and Bars. They actually voted it from a half Battle Flag to an actual Confederate Official Flag lol.

Lot of Democrats in that picture of the Klan. If you have a red x in your flag, you have a version of a Confederate flag, if you have a lone star in your flag, you also have a flag used by the Democrats of the Confederacy.
