Do you really think that Xavier and Marquette are better than Alabama? If so, then why have all of the better up and coming coaches who coached there jumped to power conference jobs at the first opportunity?
Xavier: Thad Matta, jumped to Ohio State; Sean Miller, jumped to Arizona; Travis Mack, jumped to Louisville
Marquette: Tom Creen, jumped to Indiana; Buzz Williams jumped to Virginia Tech.
Top 20-30 jobs don’t have so many coaches jumping ship like that.
Georgetown isn’t even on the radar anymore, there is no way it is a better job than Alabama. I would argue Alabama is currently a better job than Villanova, they benefit from the Jay Wright effect. But even with all the success he had, he quit. Syracuse is still a better job, but they haven’t been very relevant in 10 years. Alabama is rising on the list of desirable jobs while Syracuse is falling.
You seem to be pretty biased. Alabama probably isn’t a top 15 job. But it is certainly a top 25-30 job.

I wish people would quit falling for clickbait from these yahoos and maybe they would go away.

The original reply where I questioned the “Top 15” claim specifically qualified that as “all time”.
Alabama does not have an elite basketball history. Any claims that it does should be laughed out of the room.
Its not a cellar dweller program, but it’s probably barely above average in a conference with a total of 3 natties outside the legit blue blood of Kentucky.
Now, if you want to say that, in the new world of NIL, transfers, and TV, Alabama will BECOME a top 15 programs, it’s a defensible claim.
“All time”, though? One appearance in the Final Four (last year) doesn’t get you there.

I'm trying to imagine the pressure on DeBoer to make the playoff. Imagine they lose Oats for pouring all their money into football and not making the playoff again.

Yeah, it's obviously a different world now. And, ranking jobs doesn't make much sense when we don't know the most important criteria: how much NIL support is currently there.
You have people saying Maryland is a better job than Alabama based on past history when the reason the Maryland job is open seems to be their previous coach being unhappy with NIL support.
There are certainly some programs where historical success has led to tons of current financial support but it also seems NIL era has meant tradition is less important than creating a frenzy of support at any major athletic department at a sports crazed school such as what Pearl has done at Auburn or Oats at Alabama.

The idea he would go to Maryland after not showing interest in Kentucky is hilarious.
Maryland is a good program but not an upgrade over Bama in the current landscape at all.

What the hell is this no money thing? Alabama's basketball NIL is very good - it's what they got Philon and Cliff last year. They are building him a practice facility that he basically created the blueprint for.

In the SEC, I agree it’s a top 10 job currently. Top 10 in America, no.

He should take it at Maryland that is a basketball school.
Basketball will always be second to football in Alabama.

Theres probably 30 others as well
Today is different. The problem with trying to figure it all out is that programs do not make their NIL public. The only way to gauge how programs are doing NIL wise is with transfers they bring in, famous/rich backers/boosters who show their face around the program and possibly make mention of their investment, ala John Tyson at Arkansas.
If we were to view Alabama in the NIL era, all that needs to be done is to see their action in the portal, which then leads you to assume their is available NIL there for those players.
The coach who left Maryland was public about why he was leaving. So it would be safe to assume that right now, Alabama is a better job than Maryland.

NIL is too loose and temporary of a metric to make that claim. BYU is paying out the wazoo now too.

What's more important is that Oats has made Alabama a current Top 10 program.

If they keep doing that and their coach pans out he will have a perennial Top 10 program there too.
